| Coverage As far as coverage in NJ, it seems identical to me with my old Verizon phone, I switched to the 3GS in august. 3G is pretty good 400 - 1900 kbit download 200- 300 up The only thing I've noticed is that voice quality is not as good as verizon's in 3 months I've had a few dropped calls and a couple instances of echoing on a call. It's not bad enough to anger me, I'm glad I got the iphone and I'm not unhappy with AT&T
I do wish they had some flexibility on the data plan. I spend 85% of my time on wifi and my data usage is only like 100 - 200mb / month, a lower priced 250mb plan for $15 would make me really happy, but I know I'm dreaming. in a perfect world AT&T would go to a tiered data pricing model but one that is fair $15 for 250 $25 for 750mb $30 for a GB, just rough numbers
Imho people who go over 2GB should be treated as bandwidth hogs for the sake of the majority of customers who use a reasonable amount of data, wireless spectrum is not unlimited, it's much harder from them to handle capacity issues that your residental internet provide (who I am against caps for) and you have to be really trying to take advantage to hit those numbers a.k.a unofficial tethering.
AT&T should provide official tethering, but I don't need it so it's no biggie to me and they need to invest in capacity at the same time, where is my 7.2mbps coverage in NJ, we only have the older 3.6 in NJ. So basically I think there is fault on both sides, but AT&T did ask for it with the unlimited model in Europe where the providers have less problems with the iPhone they have faster networks and usage based internet plans. |
