Lockedness?

How locked down will the phone be? Can I, for e.g., tether to my computer without a problem as can be done with unlocked/unbranded Windows Mobile phones?

Re: Lockedness?

its going to run android. you can count on it being rooted and/or people adding tethering support if it is not already there. tethering is not a problem.

Re: Lockedness?

Just get PDANet and tether all you want. There is a free version with the only limitation being no » support.

Why do I need to root MY phone? I bought it and it's supposed to be ünlocked!" That's what I like about Windows Mobile when I buy an unlocked/unbranded phone I don't need to hack anything. This is one thing I hated about my Nokia S60 phone -- even though it was purchased from Nokia and unlocked/unbranded I still could not install an application due to a "certificate error."

Sorry but if I am spending $400-500 for a device I am not buying one that is locked. And if I unlock it they will probably claim "warranty void" regardless of it being illegal.

Re: Lockedness?

rooting is not unlocking. if you buy it direct it should not be locked. it will however be idiotproof. it is running linux. an idiot could easily brick it if it came with superuser permissions.

plus rooting is easy.. very easy. and you can always unroot it.

Yes, rooting is not "SIM unlocking" but a phone that needs to be rooted is still in my opinion "locked."

If a device was designed for "idiots" I do not want to own it. I don't care how simple it is to hack/root/unlock.
