Sigh

I've given up pretty much all hope in our government to solve issues like these.

If you ask me, we should be able to stop paying our taxes.

I wonder if google and microsoft, and maybe a few other huge corps in this country, could toss enough money at this problems to fix them.

I realize, some people think we have more important things to worry about, but this is my pet peve, and my project.

I like this, but I think we should be able to direct our taxes to items that people support. For example, love roads? Fill in the circle that you want your taxes to go to roads. Love war? Support our current wars or a future war by filling in that circle. Want something else? Fill in that circle. Of course, there's a set level that would be taken out of the equation for baseline, but give the people some control.

Some good ideas in here. Wanna run for office?

What you want is a pure democracy. What we have is a representative republic. A democracy won't work on any political entity bigger than a small town.

Re: Sigh

Really we're now a Corporatocracy. In a representative republic our policy directions would actually every so often be dictated by what the public actually wanted.

Re: Sigh

It's similar, but the idiots wear nicer shoes, and spend much more time in board rooms debating action item lists.

LOL. I'm a corporate wage slave myself for a Big IT Company.

They got tired of seeing status presentations with words on them. So they made us "net it out" to red/yellow/green dots on a scorecard.

When we presented, the advice received was along the lines of: "Great work on those green dots. Hey, get cracking on fixing those red ones!" I always felt like slapping my forehead sarcastically and exclaiming "What an insight!"

I would more make the argument that we're under mob rule at this point.

The organized criminals under the Capital dome join up in order to shake all of us down for pet pork projects, and payoffs to pass legislation.

"I'm opposed to this legislation, I won't vote for it".

PSSSST, HERE'S 300 MILLION

I think this legislation is a great idea.

With the Internet and collaborative/social networking tools, why not? I really think the current system of representative government is badly broken and needs radical overhaul.

I like the idea of people being able to vote with their dollars rather than the extremely limited buttons they have to press now (the ballot box). Obviously certain tasks on the "hygiene" level (using this term as Maslow did) have to be done, such as national defense.

The idea that we're going to take a slice of transactions (getting paid, buying something, dying, etc.) and pool it to pay for government is, when you think about it, a bit strange. We don't pay for anything else this way. The only other organization that funds itself this way is the Mafia.

When you pull up to the McDonald's drive up window, do you expect them to ask, "Sir, is your adjusted gross income above $100K? Oh, then this hamburger costs $12. Oh I'm sorry... you said $10K? Here take the hamburger, and we'll pay you a buck."
