2 edits | [Equipment] Cable modem question Hi,
I have an Arris Touchstone TM502G modem and want to know if this works with RCN. I want to upgrade my cousin's Motorola SB3100. I live in a different provider area and don't know much about RCN other than their speed in the apt complex is shitty. I'm wondering if a Docsis 2.0 compliant modem would improve that. This would just be for internet.
Thanks,
Harvey |

 | The Arris modems aren't approved for use on the RCN network. Check out the link below for what modems you can use with RCN. A DOCSIS 2 should help get your cousin out b/c it allows for higher speeds to the modem. Keep in mind though, if the area is oversold, there's not much you can do on his end. It would be up to RCN to increase the bandwidth available to the apartment complex.

Thanks, Harvey It will work, just plug the new modem into the cable line, plug it into the computer and open your web browser, the RCN Auto-Provision Screen should come up. You will then need to enter the requested info and then the Aaris modem will be provisioned for the account. |

Edit - same one I have in the FAQ. I'm going to link to this thread for added member info on others that work (TY Sean) |

 | Thanks for the replies, I'm thinking they don't consider any telephony modems as BYOM because if you want phone service it's not something you can do yourself like porting over your number and other things.
If you want Internet only you wouldn't purchase an Arris.
I'll try it this weekend and hopefully it will work. |

 | reply to mach_six Just an update, we couldn't get the modem to provision. It is not a model listed on the list and comes up with an error message after we entered the account information.
I guess he'll have to call up and see if they will be nice enough to provision that modem for internet only. |
