| Public safety concern? Why should/would cell phone data be able to disrupt 911 cell phone service? Or will this expose that they've so oversubscribed their cell phone towers that this is a problem?
Are they suggesting that first responders are using an unreliable public cell phone network for critical communications?!
This is NOT the same as yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater.
If they had suggested that everybody call 911 at the same time, that would be a public safety issue. Again, asking everybody (who's willing) to surf to YouTube or »iphone.akamai.com/ is NOT the same as yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater!
If the cell phone network is designed properly this should be equivalent to a free large scale stress test of the cell phone data network.
When roads become congested, tolls/taxes are increased and roads are widened to provide more capacity. This could help AT&T identify where they need to upgrade their capacity. Then again, this might just help them justify charging even higher fees than they currently do for the same infrastructure. |

Operation Chokehold, even if it does happen at 3PM EST/noon PST as someone suggested, won't interrupt phone service (911 or otherwise).
I personally think this will have something in common with those episodes in history where everyone flushes their toilet at the same time (like Superbowl half-time). I also don't think it will last an hour, as nobody has that attention span. It may last 5-10 minutes.
Still, the best way to register your discontent is to figure out how to move your iPhone to T-Mobile (rumor has it this works fine), and then do it.
