Vote with your wallet

I agree, Operation Chokehold is silly.

If you don't like T's "3G wireless dialup", take your dollars to another carrier.

Yeah because the Iphone is usable on all these networks.

I think that it's pointless. This guy did nothing wrong , he is not doing any damage , just asking people to use a service they pay for.

Although I am not an AT&T subscriber, isn't he doing the equivalent of asking people to purposely vandalize a network?

Yes, clog the network so no one can use the network including non-iphone users. That should really get you public support.

I'm going to go riot and burn down my own neighborhoood be back in a few.

Wouldn't vandalism imply that there would be some lasting damage or impact on the underlying target? When a network gets swamped it doesn't actually break the wires or boxes; they start working fine again after the traffic subsides.

It's similar to a denial of service attack. If he were a Muslim, suggesting this would probably land him at a terrorism trial.

I would be the first person he wouldnt want sitting on a jury if someone could not call 911 because of it.

Why ?

If the network was designed correctly to spec , all 911 calls are carried on a different frequency and are NOT affected by data usage.

I worked in telco for awhile , yes even in the AT&T ranks , they have network issues that they constantly refuse to talk about and fix , the thing is they constantly say that it's not an issue , because no one can load up the towers. Well guess what , this one is going to.

Once the data limit is hit each tower will just start dropping other data connections that are considered stale. If the towers are properly balanced then this won't even bother them.

Civil disobedience and law breaking are separate areas. Please give it a shot. Think a bit more outside the norm and you will realize there is a difference.

Not necessarily, as you push any network closer to 100% utilization holes in the routing/switching code become more apparent and in some cases the code does things not expected. This of course could lead to stuff actually going down and when you start talking huge data links restoring service can take several hours to restore it properly.

I understand its not permanent damage, but it possibly will prevent others from using such network. Lets say someone is stranded on a road that is not used that much and wants to call for road service. They can't because some fool insist on bringing down a network.

Me too! I realize there is still land line phones, but it seems more nowadays that people either just have cell service and/or VOIP.

All a matter of context I guess. 15 years ago it was a moot point -- drag your ass out of the car and hoof it to a payphone. Now suddenly the world comes to an end if mobile data service is flaky/unreliable.

What does 15 years ago have to do with the price of tea in china?

Finding a payphone is like finding an honest politician - they are few and in between, and the ones that do exist are either so far out of reach or are broken.

That is so true. I usually see pay phone stands but the phone has been removed in most cases or vandalized to a point where I wouldn't place my ear or mouth near it or even touch them.

Well AT&T didn't make the infrastructure its network runs on, so if things break under load they get to sue the equipment manufacturers. They would love to do that, right?
