Verizon, of course, is correct

Dumb customers = better consumers. Who are they to whine about a measly $1.99 per month. I for one, would be happy to pay Verizon TWICE that, just to have the privilege of using their network. See, as tkjunkmail is so fond of pointing out, it's THEIR network, not yours. You pay them money so they let you use it. Who cares if the advertised $59.99 plan is actually $74.22 per month. That, as tk is so fond of saying, is the governments fault. The solution of course, is to stifle all the competition, that way you get the best service possible. I remember, back in the day, when I dialed (rotary) 0 on my phone, I got a real operator. That was the glory days of ma bell. Sure, I had to pay $.94 cents per minute to call across the state, but that's how much it REALLY COSTS. So, stop complaining, and just pay the fees. Verizon execs NEED your money, otherwise they would have to stop snorting coke and screwing hookers on their private jets to deposit their money overseas. Lets be honest, if you complain about the bill, then you are supporting pedophile pirate terrorists. I for one, am happy our FCC goons are able to retirerich from all the bribes they get.

You should write a book. I would so buy it.

I did! "Capitalism, like previous socioeconomic systems, will inevitably produce internal tensions which will lead to its destruction. Just as capitalism replaced feudalism, I believe, socialism would, in its turn, replace capitalism!"
Sure, I don't believe Communism should be the end result, but I do believe a civilized society should limit the power of the few who oppress the masses. Communism doesn't work simply because people are not perfect. The next best thing to communism, is socialism, so you can limit the corrupt influence of power. Government, in and by itself, is by definition corrupt. Capitalism however, is not only corrupt, but ultimately self defeating, because the needs of the few are placed above the needs of the many in a capitalist society.

You are resorting to quoting a version of Mister Spock from Star Trek to make your point??

Spock: That is wise. Were I to invoke logic, however, logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

That was weak, even for you. That concept is hardly unique to Star Trek.

Eh, I won't bite. America isn't actually 100% capitalism. And thus saying that one could know the next economy type is talking through their teeth. Hell, for all you know the next economy type could be a mix of communism and capitalism with sprinkles of socialism on the side. Although, I do agree that our system of government and economy isn't the best, I think we can all agree that America is better off than many countries (including third world countries); at least we have that going for us.

I will say that I studied Karl Marx's view of communism in Ethics, and I found his arguments to be interesting. Though, I don't think I can agree 100% with his views and reasonings.

Communism is not an economic system killer, it`s a political system. You can`t `sprinke` communism onto an economy. Pretty much every modern economy in the world is a mix of capitalism and socialism. The difference is in degrees. HIstorically more socialist economies have demonstrated greater resiliency to economic turmoil and greater avenues of growth.

For example. Sweden pulled out of the Great Depression by 1934 by strictly applying Keynesian economic policies.

The challenge is a socialistic society has a tendency to breed entitlement. The government|big company|everyone else owns ME free health care|welfare|unlimited broadband|free music, dvds, games|an Umpa-Lumpa.

Entitlement is the death of many things that make this country great. People don't have to innovate, work hard or reap what the sew, because they expect that someone else will support them. People that can't afford to support a family, but will have 8 kids because socialism will support them. That growth is frightening.

When the number of people riding in the cart can out vote the people pulling the cart we are doomed.

Good 1st post and shows the mess the US is in as it goes down the road of a socialist entitlement society. 10 drones for every 3 workers pulling their weight.

I agree. Watch 'Idiocracy'. The start of the movie shows the point clearly (republicans breed faster, that's a FACT)

Yep. It runs rampant in all sorts of failed attempts of government and make-believe worlds.

For communism or socialism to work, the masses need to be willing to provide their talents for the benefit of others (otherwise known as the common good). They also need to be happy with receiving the benefits they need, and put some of their wants aside. This is why these philosophies are so often associated with phrases like "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs".

This is where it all falls apart. When away taking the motivation to get more than others and enjoy a better lifestyle than others, the government also takes away the motivation to work and better ourselves. Simply put, if I'm going to get compensated in much the same way regardless of the job I do (the "according to his needs" part), what reason do I have to not look for the simplest job available and do the sloppiest work that can be done on it? It's human nature to be lazy. The only thing that stops us on a daily basis is the desire for more... more wealth, more power, more things...

Take that away, and I'll happily stop contributing to society in meaningful ways and look for a broom to push instead. Society becomes the big loser in this equation.

"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities but of their advantages." -Adam Smith

To all liberals: I am NOT one of your parents, so get the heck out of my wallet. It's time for you to grow up and take some personal responsibility for taking care of yourselves, which means not relying on the government to give it all to you.

I've long believed that voting rights should be restricted to only those who are "pulling the cart".

To be eligible to vote in any given year, one should have to have paid the government more in taxes than one has collected from the government in subsidies, entitlements, grants, and give-aways. That will easily prevent the freeloaders and welfareaholics from voting themselves more benefits and a raise at my expense.

Restrict the ability to determine this country's future to those who actually have a vested interest and stake in it.

.94 cents is a good price! That's less than 1 cent per minute, unless you're using Verizon Math (TM).

Well then, Sarah Palin would not get a vote, because the cost of government services to provide for her damaged child will FAR exceed the amount she pays in taxes.

Given how much money she will make for her book and for her speaking engagements and how much tax she will pay, I am pretty sure you are wrong.
