The podcast can be downloaded here; » www.cnet.com/8301-19709_1-104197···ol;titleskip ahead until 32:50 or check out the email from Mike the surfing chip designer in FL on the same page Thats exactly what I was triyng to tell people. Brighthouse is throttling certain sites. Something broke recently, and the sites they were throttling is now down. Its packet shaping, its illegal, and we need net neutrality. |

That doesn't explain why I can't get a remote site I have on Comcast to connect to my BHN Business Class Static IP for our VPN/Exchange, using the IP address. |

 | reply to ferraridom Just wanted to say thanks to everyone investigating this. I know little about all this technical stuff but it is good to know that BH got their head out of their butts and is starting to look into the problem.
Kudos! |

 | reply to ferraridom Anyone got any ideas for other options for high speed internet? Just being told "we're working on it" isn't good enough for me. My area doesn't have Comcast, or any other cable provider, and DSL doesn't work at our house because we are too far from the originating point (we spent years before they figured out why it wouldn't work before we switched to cable). AT&T Uverse isn't available yet here either.
I need something high speed, with unlimited use (no cap at 5GB or anything). Are there any decent options in my area (zip code 32953) other than Brighthouse? I haven't found much and I have limited browsing ability to be able to search for anything. I'm lucky to be able to bring up this site, most of the time. |

 | reply to ferraridom brighthouse in Maitland is dragging its feet as well. speeds go up and down, google near impossible loading. I'm not sure of where the issue lies but the competition can have my money if they don't get it straightened out. |

 | reply to ZombiePC Pretty cool, I work with Mike the Surfing Chip Designer! haha, small world! (I write the software that runs on the chips he designs.)
Will post more info as I get it... Waiting on some more info from BHN network engineering. Service is still intermittent in Indian Harbour Beach, FL. |

 | reply to ZombiePC It's not just youtube either. A lot of video streaming sites have been like that here. I seem to stream videos better at work with a 3mbit DSL connection being shared on 3 computers than I do at home with a 20+mbit connection on 1 computer. Pretty piss poor. |
|
 | reply to ferraridom Had all the problems as described so I switched to a http proxy through a vpn tunnel to work but now there have been periods of huge packet loss in the last few hours. Its just about completely worthless in Melbourne Beach now...
Using Verizon 3g tethered to my laptop like I'm on the road. Almost $200 goes to BH every month and the hdtv works pretty well. The phone and internet service is worse all the time. I cant wait until they start to push the "Lightening" upgrade here...assholes. |

"Bright House Networks Customers Complain Of Internet Outages" |
|
 | Very good, the only way this will be fixed is by motivating them in this kind of way. |
|
 | This kind of shit is the reason I stopped working there. They leave the people in the call center to fend for themselves when an issue like this arises and are rarely ready and willing to fix it.
I can remember one instance where the entire phone service went down for the better part of a day. When it was all said and done it turned out the update they had done in the CFL market was the same they'd done in the Tampa market a few days or weeks before... Tampa had run into the SAME EXACT ISSUE... yet no one in CFL knew how to fix it quickly, nor did they bother to push back the update until they could figure out how to not screw it up.
Testing of updates and upgrades it something Bright House fails at miserably and unfortunately the call center folks end up taking the brunt of the disgust. |

 | reply to ferraridom Still down after 2 days, I am just looking at a continuous spinning hour glass waiting for google to load . . . . . same with other sites in my other tabs. |
|
 | reply to ferraridom I've had a good bit of luck by doing two things.
I switched my DNS servers to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2...
Also, I'm using firefox and I've installed Adblocker Plus and added some filters for doubleclick.net and google-analytics.com.. might be more I need to add but those two have helped quite a bit. |
|
 | reply to ferraridom I also switched out my DNS to OpenDNS last night, but I still have trouble with sites not answering. They appear to connect and open, but no data comes back. One site in particular, Trane A/C (www.trane.com) has not answered at all since Thursday, while most of the other sites I've visited are intermittent.
Here's a look at the trace to the Trane website moments ago. Note how there is trouble after the TBone (RR backbone?) hops:

 | reply to ferraridom Just got off the phone with Brighthouse and once again the engineers closed the case out saying all problems have been fixed around 6 pm 12/26/09/ The case has just now been reopened 9 pm because it has not in the slightest way been resolved. They did this on 12/24/09, too, which has delayed any progress being made to resolve the problems. Keep calling Brighthouse because they will keep closing the case while we are all waiting, twiddling our thumbs. Until they hear from customers, they seem unaware that the problem still exists. Call the news stations and let them become aware. Channel 9 has issued something concerning this with no response back from Brighthouse, of course. Brighthouse needs to be motivated to resolve the problem rather than close the case in avoidance. |

 | I've been having the same problem here in DeLand FL since late Christmas Eve. Everything pings, and names resolve, but various sites just don't answer back on web traffic or SMTP/POP. GMail has not worked at all. And I'm unable to even POP in via Outlook.
Here's a tracert to trane.com as someone mentioned earlier in the thread.

Re: [Internet] Brighthouse Internet issues - Titusville, FL Wonderful. I just love how they close out issues when nothing has been fixed. I guess they don't have to fix it because so many of us are stuck with no other options but dial-up. They can do whatever they want. Nice. |
