[Speed] Upgrading From SB5120 to SB6120

I current live in Lake Zurich, Illinois and own a SB5120. I know that Comcast has been updating their network to D3 lately and want to know if it's officially available in my area and if upgrading to SB6120 would give me D3 speeds. I current have power boost with the highest internet tier and see around 22mbits down and 5mbits up consistently and live in a relatively new area (3 year old neighborhood) with excellent line quality.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Fr0zen

Yes it's in Lake Zurich . And yes, if you do upgrade to the SB6120 you'll see D3 speeds. I'm not sure if you live in this zip code but I tried it at the comcast website. the zip i tried was 60047.

Qualify that as "you'll see D3 speeds IF you pay for a D3 tier"
However if your house is in a D3 area (and it can vary, even if available close by) MOST users see some benifit in reliablity and PB speed.
In the long run D3 is the future, so buying a D3 modem won't be a waste, even if results are not instant.

I think the entire Chicago area is now D3 capable. As others mentioned, you can check on-line or with Comcast to see if the newer tiers are available. Your 22/5 probably means you are on the rated 16/2 tier, and seeing powerboost.

If you don't upgrade to one of the D3 tiers, you will probably see little to no speed increase, although the downstream channel bonding may help keep the speed more consistent. Upstream probably won't change much as there is no upstream bonding, yet.

True, but his modem may lock on to a newly available QAM64 upstream channel which will also benefit his overall thoughput capabilities by virtue of having more capacity/being less congested.

Your area was upgraded to D3 awhile ago. Considering I work out of the Lake Zurich office. lol. There were a few minor issues back when it first launched but has been fine since. When you said you are on the highest tier available I'm sure you are referring to D2 speeds right?

In Lake Zurich we currently offer the 50/10 package. Although I haven't seen many people with it.

Even without upgrading your speed tier should see better performance and reliability. Which in turn would cause you to upgrade to say the 22/50 tier. lol

Thanks,

Is the D3 50/10 package still burstable like the standard D2 Blast package, or is that 50/10 constant? What I'm asking in a nutshell is if the speed still drops of after a certain # of megabytes downloaded or uploaded.

Yes, you'll still get PowerBoost with the 50/10 package.

So the 50/10 is actually the speed with powerboost, if so, what does it drop down to after powerboost?

No, there is a 50/10 package where the speed you get is 50/10 without powerboost. It'll be more with powerboost.

There has been some contention in several topics whether the 50/10 package comes with powerboost or not. Several people have gotten powerboost on that package, others haven't.

See what actual speeds the 50/10 package is set for here: »Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »What are the actual Provisioned Speeds?

Hope that helps!
