TO EVERYONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT UPGRADING: The bundled router that comes with the modem (its a modem/router combo) is an absolute piece of crap. There is absolutely no advanced settings in the router and also it has trouble working with Switches. If you have more than 4 wired devices you might have trouble connecting it to the router. There is a fix. You must call Brighthouse after the modem is installed to turn off the built-in router. Call up Brighthouse and go to the help desk and ask for Lightning support. Once there ask to setup the router in bridge mode. Some tech support people do not know what that means and try to send you to SMC Support (the maker of the modem). DO NOT LET THEM DO THIS. Ask to talk to the supervisor or insist that they are the ones who need to fix this. It took me two days to finally find a tech support guy who knew what he was doing. Once they setup the modem in bridge mode connect your router to port 1 of the modem. Unplug both the modem and router. Plug in the modem and let it completely boot up (a blue light will turn on). Then plug the router in
Going through the BS right now... They keep sending me back and forth
Basically... the tier 3 guys have to get there supervisor to approve the router to be in bridge mode. Then it goes to a pool and takes approx 10-15 mins to update. Now everything works as it did before brighthouse charged me $50.
I am now hitting 40. If you have avast, for some reason it is not going as fast with avast as a antivirus than any other antivirus system. Installed RR's CA and its hitting 40. Now just having random modem reboots, only without the reboots. The signal just drops, the WAN ip disappears and 10 minutes later. 20 drops in 1 day. Tech coming out tonight to PD.
