High pings?

For almost 2 weeks now, starting around 4-5 pm, My ping increases slowly till around 8-9pm. Tracer routes indicate its just outside the network. Always on hop 8, my ping jumps from 30ish to 200+. This makes playing any game almost unbearable. Is anyone else having this issue?

Yes, Same thing happening to me as well for about the last 2 weeks or so. I'm in Medina, OH and supposedly we're getting speed increases done. Maybe that has something to do with it but I'm not sure. Hopefully something is resolved soon as I am a gamer myself.

Noticed it a few weeks back but seems to have stabilized now. I would notice slow performance so I would run speedtests. On Zoom 500 I was only getting around 3mbps/200kbps and my pings were 200ms+. Now everything tests under 40ms and speeds are constant around 5mbps/500kbps as they should be. The problem would occur after 5pm and last through the night.

Seeing the same thing on Delta PA. I work in Baltimore and my latency to the VPN concentrator at work averages about 58ms. What gives with these high latency times? I used to be in the mid 20's. Dodgetech, can you offer any insight?

Thanks,

Seems that we are having to hop through a ton of equipment to get out of the zoom's network. This is actually very frustrating because I pretty much work from home and I use a Cisco IP Software Phone on my laptop which is very latency sensitive. I was really starting to like armstrong as everything has been pretty good up until Thanksgiving or so. Online gaming has gotten alot worse, and I cant play Call of Duty at all. I think Ill call support and see what they have to say.

I noticed it the last few days. Ping went up then the speed seemed to drop. Not sure what is going on. The speed seems to have gone back up to normal but I have not checked ping today. I will check it later and see if it is back to norm. I used to get anywhere between 30 - 100ms ping on a good server. Recently it has been around 150 - 400ms.

We should all put together some speedtests and traceroutes during trouble times and see if we can come up with a bigger case with Armstrong. I know techs occasionally sniff the board.

Not sure if that will work very well. Not many people on this board and I am not always home when that stuff occurs.

Where are you located? At 5:30 PM in Medina, Tracert to Yahoo.com, my highest ping was 65 and that was within yahoo (yahoo.iad01.atlas.cogento.com). Everthing within Zoomnetwork (to hop 7) was under 15ms, and most everthing else average around 35.
It is going to greatly depend on location and node. Without that info, you are going to be shooting in the dark.

Wow, I've been searching for other users with Zoom Internet experiencing this as it's driving me nuts.

It started a little over a month ago and lasted a few weeks then calmed down. Now within the past few days it's back up to high latency, although worse this time around!

I live in Medina, OH and it makes online game playing unbearable. Counter-Strike: Source latency has gone up from 50 latency to 150 as of this evening!

This isn't a hugely far off server, either. Just over in Colorado.

Tracert shows it spiking immediately upon leaving the Zoom Internet network and rising steadily as it makes its way to the 17th hop.

Very irritating.

Where are you located? I am off of Guilford Blvd, which is major congestion, but I have never had high pings.

You can set Ping Plotter to run for x amount of time and take so many samples every so often. It worked when I was having trouble with my DSL connection years ago. This can really help narrow down problem areas.

I'm over off of route 18, right before it hits I-71. It happens usually every night for about 4-5 hours, then settles down. This one is a Texas based server, and my normal latency to it is 50, with a ping of 58 usually.

Well we are definately on different nodes, but my Mom lives near you (development behind the new Nissan dealership). When I go over there, I will run a tracert over there and see what is going on.

The other thing I would continue to call Armstrong technical support and tell them that you have problems with your service and have them check everything out. Do you have other problems with your TV service? Whenever I had problems (I had a few digital channels dropping out) they always came out and checked out everything, including signal strength at the distribution.

Still receiving high pings/latency from roughly 6:00PM to 11:30PM nightly. It seems that after the traffic leaves the armstrong network, it immediately hits overstressed nodes. Is this something they may have control over or are they going to simply say "not our problem"?

Well, this is the second night now that my latency has returned to normal. Oddly enough, it happened the next night after my last post, so perhaps some Armstrong technician saw it and got it handled.

In any case, I hope it stays this way, as my latency seems to be stable right now and last night.

Too bad my issues started up yesterday during the afternoon and stopped during the evening. Now it's just awful all day and my ping has doubled. Verizon had this same issue, but this is just getting irritating now.
