| I've always done that. Currently I'm using a Nokia E75 and I'm very happy with it. I also have a Nokia 6110 navigator and and an N95. I think I will buy N97 pretty soon, or at least as soon as the prices go a little lower. All of these phones work on any of the GSM provider's networks 3G and all. I'm truly not interested in the CDMA crap or this Google phone. |

Good Lord... they expect $530 for an unsubsidized ANDROID phone??? For $549 I can go buy a Nokia N900... and get a real mobile computer and OS while I'm at it. Also, I don't have to sell my soul to Google. Also, like others have mentioned, ~$500 is a price I expect on say a netbook... if I'm going to pay that much money for a cell phone, I'd put my money on the N900... it's definitely much more of a mobile computer than the Nexus One, at least OS-wise.

Maemo Linux, which is basically an adapted Debian Linux distro. That means you can actually install tons of linux apps by adding a few extra repositories. Also, porting desktop apps to Maemo is a bit easier, since in many cases it's a matter of recompiling for the ARM architectures...
About the resistive touchscreen it is actually way better than the others, according to most who have reviewed the N900.. it's actually pretty accurate and for most everyday tasks you probably wouldn't notice the difference.

Maemo OS, built around a Debian Linux platform. The Linux shell is fully accessible with no need to hack anything at all. And the apps currently available are pretty astounding in that most are free, and they're actually useful!

kudos:1 | The only way I was able to pay more than $500 for my netbook purchase a year ago was if I included the price of the upgraded hard drive and memory.
With today's prices however, the upgrades are no longer enough to bring the price close to $500.
Then again, I did pay $650 for my Nokia N900. Now THAT'S crazy!
