I was all set to buy one when I first saw it was going to be 199, until the news leaked out yesterday that is the subsidized price and it's 530 out the door. I don't want to switch plans, nor have I been a customer long enough to get the subsidized price. And Google is an ad revenue drive company, which could be the subsidy to lower the price from $530. If I'm paying that much money it's reasonable to demand they don't track my browsing history, and don't show ads. If they do, I'd expect a check every month. The N900 sounds better and better every day. For 199 it would have flown off the virtual shelves. For 530 it will be collecting dust bunnies.
if people seriously think that google can track every little thing on that phone they are crazy. just don't register or use their software and you'll be fine. there are plenty of alternatives out there to replace them -- sbcglobal.net speedtest result 11/11/09 - 5256kbps
reply to rmdir Careful on the N900, I've heard it isn't everything to everyone as predicted. I'll have one to play with next week hopefully. Just curious though. If you're griping over $530 for the Nexus One...what do you think the N900 cost?
