Blah Blah Blah

I had made a rather large message, in reply to this mess, but after looking it over several times, I decided it was pointless to post it.

Art, like information, begs to be free.

He probably considers posting such a waste of electrons. It usually is when countering the arguments of industry/corporate shills. They completely ignore any and all opposing viewpoints, no matter what they are.

I am not referring to any specific person, and this applies to any site, not just here.

That would be true, except that artists need to pay rent and buy food.

That's as may be, but I still think that good artists deserve something for their trouble. And I think that it's reasonable that artists have some degree of control over their creations.

But I'm with you if you advocate for the death of the **AAs and the music labels and other assorted middlemen. The good news is that I think their death is inevitable with the current business model that's developing online.

It's funny, how much they are willing to give it all away, before they "make it".

DISCLAIMER: I do not speak for any artists, I only express my opinion.

It's just delayed gratification, a perfectly rational approach.

How true. One of my coworkers said his sister was very wealth-transfer minded until she worked her way up the sales ladder and made serious income. Suddenly she complained about the taxes she paid and did a 180.

I really should be more clear in the things I say.

I gladly pay for good art. But it does beg to be free.

I'd rather pay the artist directly, though.

A lot of good information, is still free. Copyright is really a thorn in the side of all human existence. Maybe the abuse of copyright is.

yeah you know if I invest $100 mil to make a movie the LAST thing I'm worried about is making that money back and god forbid a bit of profit. I'm just happy to provide free entertianment to the masses at my expense. After all I've got money to burn.

I swear he whole welfare "I want everything for free" attitude of this society just boggles my mind. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH. THERE IS ALWAYS A COST SOMEWHERE. I'm not which part of that people don't get.

Think about how much less literature we'd have if there wasn't a profit motive (or at lease a revenue-protection motive) that allowed authors to at least make enough money to survive early in their literary careers.

I think silly patents are the real thorn.

I agree. However, current corporate and market dynamics have become breeding grounds for public discontent. Folks are disgusted by corporations that are "too big to fail" and just a few months later reward key staff with billions in bonuses for doing what, running the company into the ground? The real crime is the public paid for this nonsense at least three times:

1) Lost 401k value
2) TARP funds
3) Bonuses siphoned from the partial recovery of #1

Does this make illegal copying right or even justify it? Of course not but I do believe it explains why folks do it. Many probably feel like they are taking back what was taken from them. Yes, that's vigilante but isn't that at the root of revolutions?

If what I'm saying is true, it seems logical that these feelings could be alleviated with something other than the RIAA and MPAA's seemingly endless iron-fist approach. Are they on the side of being "right" with this approach. Absolutely. But you can be right all day long and never get what you want.

That has a lot to do with the self-serving culture of America. People only seem to care about themselves nowadays.
