[ADSL] Less than 1 Meg!!

I have AOL Broadband and only get on average 756KB/sec yes thats KB! I have looked at other services but when inputting my phone number and postal code they all say the most I can expect is about 800 KB!! Any suggestions?

You have given virtually no info re your situation. Its very hard to advise when given so little to work with.
If the expected speed is so low it would appear you live a fair distance from the exchange, or have a bad/poor line ect.
Having said that I am with O2 and was advised my speed would be
9000kbps max. I get 15700 kbps, simply by using a different Router/modem and some special software.
I also use a prog called TCPOptimiser ( its free, just Google it ) which allows you to set the max speed and a few other settings ( very easy to use ) which usually produces an uplift in speed.
Bear in mind the operating system you use can influence the speed. XP/Win95/Win98/WinME are not set up to get the max out of the internet. Vista and Win7 are, i.e. get the max straight out of the box , so to speak!
Last thing, your line stats would be needed to go any further in helping you. Usually your ISP would be the best to help you.

I have just noticed you are in the US, why don't you put your question in the Broadband tweaks thread. There is a guy there called Irishshark who gives good advice re the US adls etc?

If it really is KB/sec capital K + capital B then that reading is KiloBytes, and would equate to a speed in excess of 6Mbps.

What is providing that reading, your computer Operating system?

Give www.speedtest.net a try and see what that tells you.

Good pickup Dosser. I obviously didn't read the whole thing, just jumped to the conclusion it was kbps as opposed to KBps. Mind you it was about 3am so I will use that as my excuse.
