 | reply to TiredOldMan Has been back up solid in Burien since 6:30pm (Sunday 28th) after too many hiccups to count today. Managed to stream a Netflix movie without any problems although I was holding my breath waiting for the link to drop. Lets hope that they can keep things working for a while. |

1 edit | reply to radiorange Talked to tech support about 930pm. By then, service out for many hours. Rep said she would send a signal to my modem, for me to turn power off and on when I got home (called tech support from friend's place, who was also having problems). After power cycle, got Internet back about 10:30pm. The Internet connection lasted about 2 hours, so now, at 00:36 Monday, down again.
This particular rep actually seemed to be honest. Said a routine update went bad and that they were doing damage control.
I suggested the CEO come out of the woodwork and do a video statement about what they were trying to do, what happened, and at the minimum to say "sorry". The fact that the CEO wants to hide behind the front-line reps tells me he or she doesn't really care about Clear customers. |

 | reply to radiorange Well, after being on and off all yesterday, my connection is back on this morning, and with great speeds!

Which is probably because no one else can connect, so I'm not holding my breath that this will continue. |
|
 | reply to radiorange I gave up trying to get to tech support, kept getting disconnected after being on hold for 10mins or so. Service went down around midnight last night but back by 1am. It's still up here in Burien @7:30am. I agree that there should be some "mea culpa" just to let us know that some one is listening amd cares. If Clear wants to build out their service, they need to be able to provide consistent and reliable connections. |
|
 | I was on last night in bellevue just before midnight and then it went out, modem chasing lights until abt 1am or so. Seems like it drops right after midnight, like they have a maintenance window then and just take it down to do whatever it is they do. Unreliability of Clear and lack of phone support = FAIL big time. |
|
 | reply to radiorange Clear's wimax service basically disintegrated in the greater Seattle and Puget Sound area the weekend of March 27-28, 2010.
Reports of outages showed up on DSLReports.com. Some reports may have even made it to Clear, if the customer could wait long enough. A two-hour chat wait when at 75th or 65th place in the queue was not uncommon. One customer was told at 1:00am, after a two-hour wait, to plug and unplug the modem and move it around and lacking resolution from those actions call tech support at 9:00am.
Mike DiGioia with JLM Partners, Clearwire's PR firm, reduced the outage to this: "Regarding our service in Seattle, Clearwire did experience an outage of service in Seattle on Sunday due to intermittent software failure in our network. The issues have since been corrected and connectivity to our network has been restored."
For JW in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood, "intermittent" didn't seem to reflect reality -- considering that her service was down half of Saturday and nearly all day Sunday. No service also meant no phone service (provided through Clear) -- not a good arrangment when out of work hoping to hear from friends about job leads. Clear made a concession at least, when she was able to call Clear through a friend's cell phone: $10 credit on the account. The bottom line for JW is that she'd rather have reliable service than the $10 credit.

On with Clear for 1.5 hours last night...they will roll a tech to the antenna.
We shall see. |
|
 | I am exactly in your area...I am experiencing the same issue...very slow speeds...
I am between Preston and Lloyd.
I also called Clear last night...they said they were getting complaints about it.
Hopefully they will fix that tower...cause we have power outages on Saturday several times...thats when the speed went down. |

SkipdawgThe OriginalPremium,ExMod 2001-03 join:2001-04-19 Mount Vernon, WA | So am I seeing this right a down tower can cause the very slow speeds?
I know with DSL if your down there is no connection. lol |
|
 | Well..in my case...
I am getting all 5 lights on my modem...but getting speeds of .25. My upload speeds are fine..I'm getting 1.03 upload.
But there has to be an issue with the tower if I am getting a perfect signal but very very slow speeds.
I don't know if the tower is down or not..but our area had an issue with power outages that stretched from Preston and Lloyd to Preston and Frankford. The power kept going off and on several times during the day on Saturday.
The tower that is in question is around the tollway and Frankford. So I don't know if the tower was affected by the power outages or not..but I noticed the speeds were remarkably slower when they finally fixed the electricity. |

 | reply to radiorange I am coming to the conclusion. CLEAR STINKS! While I read here that other users in Seattle received a $10 credit for the past weekend outage, I called Customer Service and was offered $3.34. Not cool. Not right. CLEAR, you failed to deliver what I have contracted with you to deliver. |

 | reply to scoff Hey Scoff..
I called Clear again last night and they escalated me to another tech. The tech had me do a few things different that I wasnt aware of....he had me take my laptop outside and face the laptop to each direction North South East West and give him the speeds.
Everything gave me the same slow speeds with the exception of north where I must have connected to a tower with no issues...cause the speeds were 3MB. But where I live..I am not able to connect to that tower to the north.
But the tech made the decision that he was going to send someone out to that tower.
Now..not sure what speeds you are getting today...but last night around 11:00pm...the tower in question was giving me fast speeds again. But I haven't checked it today cause I am at work.
If you are able to check the tower today..let me know if those speeds are still fast or if they are back to slow again. |

 | reply to radiorange Just finished useless chat w/ "Jessica James" (har, har) support staffer. Told me to call CW when my new-ish wimax modem stops working; did not understand that when modem is down, VoIP = phone service is down. Whatta maroon. I left out to mention that I, like 90% of other Americans, have a cellfone to make the call with tee hee.
Will give a 25% rating to CW. When it works, it works okay. By speedtest.net and pingtest.net, I get exactly 50% of my rated 5Mbps download service, and highly variable packet loss/latency/jitter. Strangely, upload is close to the 500kbps service I pay for, so I suspect download is being intentionally throttled to 2.5Mbps. Have CW by intent breached their contract in terms of service? Am I entitled to prorating of my monthly fee if d/l BW is less than rated? Take a lawsuit to find out.
But in practice it's been getting increasingly bad lately, having had to almost daily cycle power on modem/VoIP/router setup, due to no internet, no dial tone or both. Dropped phone calls, variable/spotty voice quality, internet comes and goes.
When service is down, strangely that's the only time I get 5 lights on the wimax modem. Modem quits most frequently in the early AM. 5 LEDs= cycle power in my house.
Takeaway is that those needing highest speed and reliability in Seattle will have to enter the Lair of the Beast and sign on with the Comcastards (or Qwest if you're lucky to live in their DSL service area, which sadly I'm not). |

Hey Scoff.. If you are able to check the tower today..let me know if those speeds are still fast or if they are back to slow again. Was really slow all last night...I tried aiming every direction but seemingly only connected with the same tower. Was slow early AM. But seems to have picked up. Upload still very slow. But this is back to close to what I was getting before the outage.

Below is from my office using the home modem, and going to antenna at NW corner of Keller Springs and Tollway.

 | Hi Guys,
Sinking on the same boat since 03/28 evening. After 5 days on the (cell) phone I was able to talk to one of the guys who seems dealing with the problem. As far he told me the issue is with a software update supposed to handle roaming, and our modems keep bouncing among towers running the system amok. The outage is not Puget Sound alone, he said the whole North West area was affected. They still (@ 9:00 AM PDT) don't have a clue on when this might be solved, if ever. Guys, I already filed my complaint with the FCC and the D.A., and I'm making my case to get out of the early termination hook, and get my money back. I strongly suggest we all do that. Also, if someone has contacts with the media, this should have been in the news since a while ago. If the media does not pay attention, maybe talking to Comca$t and Qwe$t media people may get this into the daily news and people aware of the bad service these guys are offering. Rick |

Re: Clear Outage Reports Seattle, WA
I agree, that as of this past weekend CLEAR service has been a big FAIL... and continues to be.
Can't get a steady SPEEDTEST.NET result - latency fails, upload fails, etc
This is the last PINGTEST.NET result I got to work

Makes me think that latency is all over the place, causing timeouts with online gaming and NETFLIX streaming. Never had a problem with either until this last weekend.
And SPRINT is talking about rolling out a 4G HTC phone come this summer? I'm beginning to believe that CLEAR is not ready for prime-time, and get the reliability back, at least where is was with pre-WIMAX CLEARWIRE. Never had these problem with that service. -- ... because there is no patch for human stupidity. |
