They don't want to become another AT&T

Look at the mess that AT&T has with the iPhone and you will see why all you can eat is an unsustainable business model.

Verizon doesn't have all you can eat. $60 gets you 5 GB a month and $51.20 per GB overage. Where are they losing out? Some guy goes over by 1 GB it cost Verizon less than a $1 they make $50 profit. Now it sounds like Verizon still wants to you to pay $60 and get ZERO GB and get charged the $51.20 right from the first GB. That'll go over like lead balloon.

If their network can't handle data then perhaps they shouldn't offer data plans to begin with.

fist of all if u look at ALL the markets where the iphone has come out,,, they all suffering from cloged network, so its not ATT,

must network at set up for ur razor type of phones witch dunnot use much bandwith, but hold and behold the iphone comes out and NOW they all can see how they wont be able to make as much money now, cause they have to upgrade they systems, so in ENTERS the pay per use model.

It all boilds down to , verizon its making billions, but thats not enough they need trillions, and they will get it regarless of what US the consumer wants or need.

some may even say well they are a buss. and they are there to make money,, well a few billion a year IS MAKING money, when is it enough?

Nice straw man. The problem is that ATT didn't bother to upgrade their networks when they acquired 3 million new subscribers. Rather than use all that new revenue to upgrade they took all the revenue and expended none of it on capital improvements. The data use of the unlimited plan likely had nothing to do with the network problems and unless you can present verifiable evidence that the Iphone users use substantially more data than regular smartphones you are simply blowing hot air.

Again, the Iphone has presented problems worldwide, not because of unlimited data but because every carrier that got it had a huge influx of users and in the case of ATT didn't spend a dime on capital improvements. They ignored the problem completely in the markets that showed the largest influx first (new york, DC, LA, SanFran) and didn't react until the issues hit every major city and news became national.

But if you wanna build your straw man about this being the users fault rather than the managements fault go right ahead, we all see it for the BS it is.

That's their own fault. It's bad planning. One needs to plan for the capacity that anticipated. Oh wait, they HAVE.

Oh please. AT&T tripled its profits from 2005. *Tripled*. The only reason they haven`t been able to handle the iPhone is because they cut down on investment into their network.

With the money they`re rakign in, there`s no reason for them to be bogged down.

The iPhone certainly hasn`t caused problems anywhere else in the world. Just in the hopelessly uncompetitive US market.

What we need to do is break up AT&T and Verizon into 50 smaller companies each. Provide some relief from the lobbyists.
