Re: [DSL] D-Link DSL-2320B won't configure

Pardon my interrupting ,
Can any of you tell me if the Internet LED light on the front panel of the D-Link 2320B dsl modem will turn on and off (momentarily), during the Power On Self Test, like the other 5 LED front panel lights.

Thanks,

nync

Re: [DSL] D-Link DSL-2460B won't configure

Need help.

Centurylink (ISP) won't help with configuring dlink-2640b wireless router/modem; they only give DCHP, VPI 8, VCI 35 .
They offer no help because they want customers to rent a unit for a monthly fee - not interested in that)

Tech people at dlink cant seem to figure out- we get different directions for configuration each time we speak to a different tech. Expert tech never available or never called back.

Trying to configure on HP laptop running Windows 7.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Off of my Sprint 645 modem -( not currently in use, but it was working when it was replaced).

Encapsulation - RFC 1483
Multiplexing= LLC-based
VPI = 8
VCI = 35

That should move you along.

You're probably right about that, however, also they can't help because it's not their modem/router and there are a cajillion of them that they would have to know how to set up. If you buy a new radio from Alpine for your new Ford, guess what, Ford won't help you set it up.

Here's what I get from the Dlink page. Hope this helps.

Q How can I configure my DI series router to work with a DSL (PPPoE) connection?
A Make sure you disable or uninstall any PPPoE software such as WinPoet, Broadjump, or Enternet 300 from your computer or you will not be able to connect to the Internet. Do not disable until you´ve downloaded the firmware in Step 1. Please make sure that your modem is not also a router. If it is or you do not know, please contact your ISP and change the modem to Bridge mode.

Note: In some areas, BellSouth and Verizon may not use PPPoE. If you receive a dynamic IP address, please click here for setup instructions.

Step 1 Upgrade to the latest firmware.

How do I upgrade my firmware?

Step 2 Take a paperclip and perform a hard reset. With unit on, use a paperclip and hold down the reset button on the back of the unit for 10 seconds. Release it and the router will recycle, the lights will blink, and then stabilize.

Step 3 After the router stabilizes, open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc), enter 192.168.0.1 into the address window, and hit the Enter key. When the password dialog box appears, enter the username admin and leave the password blank. Click OK.

If the password dialog box does not come up repeat Step 2.

Note: Do not run Wizard.

Step 4 Click on the WAN tab on left-hand side of the screen. Select PPPoE.

Step 5 Select Dynamic PPPoE (unless your ISP supplied you with a static IP address).

Step 6 For Earthlink users, under the username field enter ELN/username@earthlink.net and your password, where username is your own username (some Earthlink users may not need the ELN/ in front of username).

For SBC Global users, enter username@sbcglobal.net.
For Ameritech users, enter username@ameritech.net.
For BellSouth users, enter username@bellsouth.net.**
For most other ISPs, enter username.

**Note: In some areas, BellSouth may not use PPPoE. If you receive a dynamic IP address, please read here for setup instructions.

Ameritech users: If you cannot connect, try entering just the username (without the @ameritech.com) and then put ameritech.net in the Service Name box.

Step 7 Maximum Idle Time should be set to zero. Set MTU to 1492, unless specified by your ISP, and set Autoreconnect to Enabled.

Note: If you experience problems accessing certain websites and/or email issues, please set the MTU to a lower number such as 1472, 1452, etc. Contact your ISP for more information and the proper MTU setting for your connection.

Step 8 Click Apply. When prompted, click Continue. Once the screen refreshes, unplug the power to the D-Link router.

Step 9 Turn off your DSL modem for 2-3 minutes. Turn back on. Once the modem has established a link to your ISP, plug the power back into the D-Link router. Wait about 30 seconds and log back into the router.

Step 10 Click on the Status tab in the web configuration where you can view the device info. Under WAN, click Connect. Click Continue when prompted. You should now see that the device info will show an IP address, verifying that the device has connected to a server and has been assigned an IP address.

They're assuming PPPoE . I can tell you for certain that a pretty good percentage of Embarqland is actually DHCP, Which means you want your MTU set to 1500.

It is best to check MTU when you are not sure as DHCP isn't an automatic 1500 when PPPoE is used further up the line from the customer.

Re: [DSL] D-Link DSL-2460B won't configure

Wow INtech... I've been struggling for days trying to configure my D-Link 2320. Many thanks for your post! (Worked for me!)

I went to the D-Link site but was not able to glean all of that.

I did find a helpful bit of information about AT&T setup:
»www.att.com/support_media/images···+-13.pdf

That seems to have a few good tips on settings as well.
