Completely idiotic!

So we wait 28 days after its release so then we can have a VERY LONG WAIT list! wonderful if this happens i'm so ditching netflix, a redbox is just a few mins. away! all i watch for movies now are the new releases and a online movie is very seldom. As it is, ive only gotten 3 new release dvd's that came out last month to beginning of this month. so much for the 2 at a time plan.

Dude,

They said in the press release that one of the benefits of waiting for 28 days is that they can increase their stock and get enough units in house in order to reduce the wait time. The most expensive disc is the one which has just come out. It is important to remember that before this deal Netflix had to purchase the discs through a third party. This means the third party places a markup on the disc and also has to distribute their limited stock between all of their customers. In the end it meant that Netflix could only purchase so many discs at release and still remain economical. Now, they have a 28 day buffer and (I believe, correct me if I am wrong) purchase the discs directly through the studios. This means that have a whole four week period after the disc comes out to increase their stock levels and get more discs into users hands immediately. Also, since there is no third party involved they get the discs cheaper allowing them to buy MORE so there are shorter wait times.

Read the freakin article!

I agree with hnd4me. It will not just be 4 weeks to get a new dvd from netflix. It will be more like 8-12 weeks to get a new dvd because of the Very Long Wait. District 9 was released on December 22 and I still haven't received the DVD yet. Four Christmases was released on November 24 and I still got a very long wait on this dvd. If you think we will be waiting only 4 weeks for a new dvd then you are going to be very disappointed. This is a bad move by Netflix.

Agree. You can't actually believe what any exec says during an interview. Seeing is believing. You can't tell me that there will magically not be any long waits anymore as a result of this.

Um yes because Netflix can buy more DVDs because Warner is willing to sell them to Netflix directly for huge discount. Not sure which part is hard to understand.
