Re: Firefox 3.6 Coming January 21st

Is there a changelog yet? I didn't see one. I only saw a RC2 list.

I've been using 3.6 since the first beta to the current RC2, haven't noticed much of a change between it and 3.5.

Hate to see you suffering, so here's a 'prequel':

Firefox 3.6 RC2

• Made some changes to how we allow third party software to integrate with Firefox in order to prevent crashes.
• More than 70 fixes from the last beta to improve performance, stability, security and features.
• The ability to run scripts asynchronously to speed up page load times.
• Users can now change their browser's appearance with a single click, with built in support for Personas.
• Firefox 3.6 will alert users about out of date plugins to keep them safe.
• Open, native video can now be displayed full screen, and supports poster frames.
• Support for the WOFF font format.
• Improved JavaScript performance, overall browser responsiveness and startup time.
• Support for new CSS, DOM and HTML5 web technologies.

Are they going to tell you how to get rid of some of that? I just saw complaints about personas at Mozillazine. I like Night Launch and see no reason to change.
I don't want any embedded stuff running unless I say so. I am not a fan of most videos or anything that someone thinks I'd like.
I don't want that "awful bar" in any way, shape, or form. I've got FF customized now to my liking.
I do want the security holes plugged. That's usually the only reason I'll upgrade. But I don't want the extras. I really don't care for any kind of "total experience" I'd rather read, and in peace.

Couldn't agree more..... that makes two of us....

Edit: I recant. Usual trouble free install and very pleased with it. Mr Tech took care of the few addons that needed sorting.

Thanks. I wonder what else it broke beside the ones listed in changelog.

The old IE TAB. But a Coral IE Tab works. And Fasterfox, but maybe that is no longer needed.

Re: Firefox 3.6 Coming January 21st

Thanks. I did the update and found a three extensions that did not work. I downloaded and installed the Nightly Tester Tools and used that to allow one extension to work based on a post by a user in the support forum for the application. That was fine. Otherwise, I uninstalled the other extensions and found new ones to use. I had a theme that did not work, but then I installed a persona for a change. I believe that screen loading is faster, for whatever reason.

Coral IE Tab is what I installed to replace IE Tab. It seems to work pretty much the same way, but has more options.

It also broke the way javascript popups work on Yahoo:

»[FireFox] 3.6 breaks pop-up handling.

IE View Lite still works.

Firefox 3.6 also breaks logging on in our internal eRoom using the plug-in software. Not sure why that would be yet, and have not had time to chase it down.

It's going to be packaged in Lucid Lynx but I don't think Karmic will get it but maybe later. Jaunty and Hardy users should probably updated to Karmic or Lucid if you want FF v3.6. FF v3.6 could be for older versions if they make a PPA for it.

Some addons are disabled only because those devs have not yet updated their internal 'compatible with versions...'.

This usually can easily be corrected by using the 'make compatible' option in the "Mr Tech Toolkit" addon.

Love Mr. Tech Toolkit, keeps all my add ons and themes working with each new FF version. Wouldn't be without it.
