Such laws already exist in some countries. Sure, you'll have privacy alright--until your ISP and VPN service are legally forced to fork over their mandatory logs. Even in the absence of such laws, what assurances do users have that the VPN service isn't really keeping an IP address log? And if they really don't keep such logs, what legal liability do they expose themselves to in the event that customers use their services for illegal purposes? |

Another good question would be likely when, not if, they get shut down. What happens to users who have invested money? I assume there is something on the TOS regarding that, but do they open themselves up to a certain civil liability regarding paid accounts and refunds?

It wouldn't be possible. Anybody with a good amount of Linux Fu, a computer at 1.0 ghz and above, and can download m0n0wall or smoothwall can have their own at home VPN. |
