FF 3.6 and NAV/NIS 2009After asking about Norton IPS 1.0 support with FF 3.6 at the Norton Forum, I was informed that a free upgrade to Norton's 2010 version must occur; 2009 will not be offering support for FF addon Norton IPS 1.0. Bummer..wasn't ready to upgrade to 2010 yet. |

You might as well. It's free and IMO, provides more complete protection. It runs just as light as 2009 did so that's not an issue... |

I haven't for a few reasons. First, it was easier to put in a product key from a NAV 2010 boxed cd into my 2009 version to update subscription. Second, paranoia about compatibility with ThreatFire and my VPN program for work. 2010 Sonar within NAV sounds improved but sensitive.
I will probably move forward at some point and I will likely find my concerns unfounded (I hope anyway).
Does anyone know the security implications running w/o the Norton IPS addon in FireFox enabled? I assume the intrusion prevention built into Norton itself provides protection and the addon is just an added layer of defense?? |

I can't comment on the "security implications" of no IPS plugin in FF, but as for upgrading, do it. It's seamless. I ran the NAV 2010 install, it installed, and no need to put in a key. It recognizes your valid subscription. Poof. Done. |

I have Norton Internet Security 2010, which uses IPS 2.0. IPS 2.0 is not compatible with Firefox 3.6 yet.
I haven't done any research on IPS so I don't know what it is or does. |

From a couple days ago, here's the latest from Norton at the link amysheehan provided: Hello Everyone,
Here is an update on the status of our support for Mozilla Firefox 3.6 with our IPS Technology as well as The Norton Toolbar.
We are certifying the updated IPS drivers and Norton Toolbar intensely to ensure compatibility, and plan to continue to test through next week. If no issues are found, we plan to release the updated patches during the second week of February.
FAQ:
1) When do you plan to support Firefox 3.6 with IPS and The Norton Toolbar?
We currently plan to have an update available the second week of February.
The Norton Toolbar currently works with Firefox 3.6 and Norton Internet Security 17.5 installed.
2) Which products will you update?
The update will be available for the following products: Norton Internet Security 2010 Norton Internet Security 2009 Norton AntiVirus 2010 (IPS only) Norton AntiVirus 2009 (IPS only) Norton 360 3.0
3) Am I still protected even thought IPS doesn't function with Firefox 3.6?
Yes, you are still protected. We have many layers of protection above and below the Firefox IPS plug-in. Part of the IPS technology component, SONAR and other protection engines will provide adequate support while the Firefox plug-in remains disabled.
4) Is there any recommended action to take while awaiting the update?
You may hold off on upgrading to Firefox 3.6 until the product patches are available. However, please keep in mind that you are still protected with the technologies mentioned in FAQ #3.
We will update this thread when we have new information. Thank you for your patience!
