 | Best software to transfer a single large file? This question has probably been asked and answered dozens of times, but I'll give it a shot anyway.
I am looking for software that will enable me to transfer single large files to another user. The software I am looking for would ideally be identical to the AIM file transfer, where the user has to accept a "direct connection" and then we can transfer files to each-other, no matter how large the file is. And when we are done transferring files, we can close the "direct connection". Is there software that can do this without using AIM? |

1 edit | Are you trying to avoid IM clients altogether or just AIM? If this is a regular thing you will be doing, you could set up an FTP for you two, and you can just put the file(s) on the server and then, at the very least, just give your friend a regular link to download the file at his leisure.
As much as I dislike AIM, there direct connect/file sending capabilities are the most straightforward out of all the mainstream IM clients. -- Block Accounts | UseNet Now |

Something about it sends up the untrusted flag. |

 | reply to bigyeah You could create a basic account on:
Basically create an account, upload the file, then set it to share, and send the URL to your friend. |

 | reply to kvn864 A few benefits of using Adrive.com.
1. You and the person you are sending the file to do not have to be on the same schedule/time zone... I can upload a file today, share the url with them, and they can grab the file whenever they have time.
2. Although it will take me a while to upload a large file, the person who has to download it later doesn't have to wait for me to push it across the internet... plus on many home connections the upload speed is capped at a fraction of the download speed...
3. The person you are sending the file to doesn't need to be technically minded you are just sending them a url link to download a file from.
Obviously FTP is ideal, but that requires both parties to be available at the same time, they may need to know how to configure firewalls, and port forwarding etc... |

 | said by DataDoc:I use that, in combination with DynDNS. I do the same. Do you use the DynDns IP update utility or do you add your DynDNS hostname to the router's DDNS field? |

The latest version(4.1.5) has never missed a lick, whereas the previous version occasionally thought my local IP was the one to use. |
