How can I tell if my iPhone is 3G or 3Gs..?

I recently bought an iPhone 3Gs for 299 with the at&t plan but how do I know if its really a 3G or 3Gs...? On the 'home' screen it says AT&T 3G or should it say 3GS? Also I checked in settings/general/network/ and it says Enable 3G. Should it say Enable 3GS if it was a real one? or did I get ripped off somehow and got a 3g? Is there anyway else to check in the iphone to see if its 3gs?

If it has a compass app and a video camera option in the camera app, it's a 3GS

Plug it into iTunes. Or look at the back of the iPhone.

It's not going to say AT&T 3GS, because there's no such thing. The iPhone's model 3GS. The network is 3G.

The iPhone 3G was never released with 32GB of memory. If yours has 32GB, then it's definitely a 3GS.

Silk-screened text on the back plastic of the phone.

On a 3G it's gray. On a 3GS it's silver.

On the iPhone, go into the Settings app, choose General, then choose About. Scroll down until you see "Model." If you got your phone in the U.S., the model number displayed there should be one of the following:

MB715LL - iPhone 3GS 16GB Black
MB716LL - iPhone 3GS 16GB White
MB717LL - iPhone 3GS 32GB Black
MB718LL - iPhone 3GS 32GB White

I never really understood why Apple decided not to add the little silkscreened "S" to the logo on the back of the case.

Sorry, I guess those are part numbers.

From a quick search it looks like a MC137LL is a 32GB iPhone 3GS with a black case.

My iPhone says MB717LL in that field in mine is a 32GB black 3GS also.

Edit: You bought your phone direct from AT&T, right? Looks like the MC137 number is for AT&T phones and MB717 is for phones purchased from Apple. (I got mine at an Apple store.)

Wow. I had no idea it was this complex.

But, it looks like you got a legit 3GS.
