Re: [Newsgroups] 20th Century Fox & Others v Newzbin

If you are using SABnzbd, set it to check the RSS feed every 15 min or so, it will grab them within an hour of going up at most.

I kinda figured they would lose. I hope they don't go after the matrix next.

There never was a doubt.

I think Matrix sucks compared to Newzbin, but for an indexed only site, I guess it's okay. I'd imagine they're in somebody's sights right now.

I like matrix, but I did prefer newzbin. Although the good thing about matrix is the longer retention. Ohh well, just sad to see the grandfather of the .nzb format is now pretty much killed off. There will be plenty of alternatives to take its place and of course there is always the old fashion way of doing it. Hell newsbin pro x64 performs great with headers especially if your provider such as astraweb supports compression of headers...

True regarding the retention. But, I like the raw and compressed categories quite a bit. If Matrix had that, it would be a decent substitute.

Yeah, headers are okay, but I liked the automatic downloads with Newzbin and Sabnzbd. I'll miss that until they get that going with some other service.

I have Newsbin, so I'll go back to the headers thing again. Oh well. It is what it is I guess. Better than in in the late 80s early 90s when it was all text and UUencode was the way of the world.

Looking at NZBsites.com, the ranking for Newzbin is at #13. I'm not sure if it has been that way all along, or if it is a result of the recent actions they have been forced to take by the MPA.

NZBMatrix is the highest rated on the site, but there's an interesting one in the #2 spot: gingaDADDY.net. They have free registration, offer retention up to 1265 days, 100,000 NZBs, 40,000 XXX NZBs and more. I may have to look into it.

I'm not sure about how trustworthy their ratings are, and Merlin's Portal, another of my favorite NZB sites, isn't even on the list. Maybe they asked to be removed.

What's the point in 1265 days retention (at least for right now)?

That part I didn't seem to get. IMO, they seemed to be touting a useless feature that didn't make any sense, unless of course they are also indexing content from the text based groups (which is pointless for an NZB site).

Matrix is getting lots of immigrants and they seem very pleased. The biggest 'complaint' is it's not the same. Just takes some getting used to. No monthly fees there btw.

It's not even close. Matrix is more than just different. It's much less usable. No auto downloads into Sabnzbd and no raw or condensed. Searching ability isn't even 10% of what Newzbin has.

I'm keeping Newzbin. But I also paid the $10 for Matrix for the indexing, knowing that Matrix may/will get shut down.

I noticed that with NZBMatrix, when you search, the results are returned showing the oldest posts first. Kind of annoying. I have to search and hit Age on the column to get a new page with the newest results at the top.

There are a lot of little niggling differences. Overall, I find Matrix to be a lot more amateurish in its presentation and capabilities. There certainly was a reason why Newzbin was king of the heap.

I'm hopeful that either Newzbin will be able to come up with something that satisfies the court and still provides most of its prior usefullness, or that Matrix will improve.

I find that annoying as well, especially since I can only download NZBs that are 20 days old or less. I prefer the way NZBsRUS handles searches.

I said for years the best money I spent was on newzbin. Nothing will be able to take it's place.

The site is now free

We have decided to stop taking payments for the use of the site for the time being.

This will probably change once back once the legal action is done and dusted and we know what we need to do to carry on. So, for the time being 'fill yer boots'

Premium Credit is still frozen - whatever credit you currently have will stay at that level until payments are restored again.

The site is free for now.
