Re: COD:MW2 how is it going so far? said by Somnambul33t:said by ctceo:Where there is a will there is a way... I have yet to play ANY game, console & PC alike, in which a person hasn't found a way to hack and/or cheat. Some games/genres are worse than others, but time is inevitably on the side of cheaters. yes, but the problem with MW2 is there is no temp fix. there's no votekick, voteban, nothing. the only thing you can do is TK him until he leaves or leave yourself. unacceptable. (on 360 maybe it's different on PC) All the things you mention would not be workable.
Votekicking and Votebanning have been in a lot of games and have been a waste of time. For hackers, if the hacker is on your team, the other side complains. You need a certain threshold in order to vote that person out of the game, and thats if EVERYONE is watching.
Admined servers are also not a silver bullet. Sure, its nice to see hackers get kicked by an admin, but in my experience the admins are never there when you need them. Like the cops catching a speeder, you can play 90% of the servers, and I bet you will never see an admin. Those that are there may get it right, but some will kick people having good games instead of kicking those that are really hacking.
Sure, I give the worse case scenario because I have seen both the best and worse case. In the end, there is no silver bullet to fixing the hacking problem. The only thing you can do is to quit and go to a different server or game. Relying on admins and dedicated servers is a waste of time. IW is a step below dedicated servers I will agree there, but it isn't the "fix all" that people are saying it will be. Just watch.....
Bad Company 2 has dedicated servers that are well admined in beta, and yet there are people hacking already. Where are these admins to kick these hackers?
Just an example. -- My domain - Nightfall.net | | | I am starting to realize that FPS's are dead on PC's (dead to me), they are just too easy to hack and cheat. I have been dedicated to PC games for a long time, but the cheating is sucking the fun out of it.
I have MW2 on the PC and recently rented on the PS3. First off, there are many more players on the PS3. Second, it feels different for some reason. It feel "even". I cannot count how many times on the PC it seemed like I was just getting shot through walls and the millisecond I come around a corner. On the PC I would get slaughtered. On the PS3 I actually do decently. And I am a complete novice on console controllers.
I haven't touched my PC version in a couple weeks...sad, that a waste of money that was. | | kamm join:2001-02-14 Brooklyn, NY 2 edits | reply to Nightfall said by Nightfall:said by Somnambul33t:said by ctceo:Where there is a will there is a way... Majority of FPSes have very little problem with hacks and even those are not really annoy anyone especially that they are booted pretty quickly - oops, in MW2 you don't have a server, too bad...
Stop spreading this ignorant nonsense, please - this is nothing but nonsense, only to try to justify Activision's worm-like CEO and his corporate greed that led to the decision to yank the entire PC scene by cutting out the usual dedicated server.

Just an example. Yeah, another ignorant example... newsflash: BC2 servers have no admins, they are BETA SERVERS, running a single map-single script dedicated server, with NO ADMINS. --

Yeah, another ignorant example... newsflash: BC2 servers have no admins, they are BETA SERVERS, running a single map-single script dedicated server, with NO ADMINS. A majority of FPSes have little problem with hacking? Maybe you and and I have played the wrong FPSes. Call of Duty 4 was a hackfest until they enabled punkbuster. Even after that it had a problem with hacking. Medal of Honor was another game that had problem with aimbotting and hacking and that had dedicated servers I believe. Battlefield 2 was another game I played at launch, and yet another game that was hit with hackers.
In all these instances, I have seen dedicated servers offer little/no protection. On a well admined server? Absolutely! The unfortunate part is that with hundreds of servers out there, you have less than 10% with active admins on at peak times.
In the end, if you see a hacker while playing BF2, and you have no admin on, you either...
1. Keep playing 2. Move to another server
Wow, the same choice you have with MW2. Leave the game for a new one or keep playing.
You can call it utter nonsense all you want. The fact of the matter is that while dedicated servers do offer many benefits, it won't get rid of the hacking or aimbotting problem that is rampant in MW2. There are people here who believe that dedicated servers are the silver bullet and they couldn't be more wrong.
Dedicated servers are much better than the IW implementation though. You aren't relying on a client to do the work. You can run it from a dedicated box which results in better performance. You have the option for admins. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Its just not the "fix all" solution that people are giving it credit for.
As for BC2, you can take the beta angle on that, but what about Battlefield 2? Hackers are playing that game. Just yesterday I hit a guy who was wall glitching, and there were no admins around on peak hours to fix the problem.
To call this argument utter nonsense, and have nothing to back it up other than your bold type is just that. Utter nonsense. Maybe when you can refute these points, you can come back and we can have a sensible discussion about it. -- My domain - Nightfall.net | | CylonRedPremium,MVM join:2000-07-06 Bloom County | America's Army - all versions - had a LOT of hacks as well - even with punkbuster. A lot of the dedicated servers did not have admins but the ones that did were fun to play on most of the time. -- Brian
