Last I heard Bresnan (13th largest MSO) was looking into D3 CMTS' but don't think any area is actually served by one - and if they are I am almost certain there is really no advantage of being served by one at least not now. The highest residential tier is 15/1. I, and several others depending on city, have major difficulty even getting there much less any typical D3 tiers as mentioned above.

D3 should *theoretically* allow for higher speeds even on lower tiers because everything's load-balanced across the various channels. That's why Suddenlink deployed D3 AFAIK, even though their tiers even now top out at 20/2 (they topped out at 12/768 pre-D3).

I disagree, adding extra DOCSIS 1/2 channels and then assigned modems to channels would work, but that means buying new CMTSes for more coax ports on them, and I think at that point you might as well buy D3 CMTSes.

The CMTSes are cheap either way.
