D3 should *theoretically* allow for higher speeds even on lower tiers because everything's load-balanced across the various channels. That's why Suddenlink deployed D3 AFAIK, even though their tiers even now top out at 20/2 (they topped out at 12/768 pre-D3).

I disagree, adding extra DOCSIS 1/2 channels and then assigned modems to channels would work, but that means buying new CMTSes for more coax ports on them, and I think at that point you might as well buy D3 CMTSes.

The CMTSes are cheap either way.
