Re: Cheap? said by hemzer:You said it "Cheap" now we as people cant step on their monopoly controlled profits can we? But "Cheap" will never be cheap enough when zero is the option available. |

 | I am willing to bet that if all albums were nothing more than $5 show promotion material, then album sales would skyrocket. |

 | reply to NeoandGeo I agree. Buying music would probably become a bad habit of mine if the price were right. Right now the price is very wrong. I listen to the JamBand genre. (Grateful dead, Phish, etc) These bands encourage music sharing because they live on concert ticket sales. They even allow recording equipment into their concerts. And of course all these concerts are available by means of bit-torrent legally.
But even FREE by bit-torrent is too expensive if you don't know the recording quality of 2 hours of music. Money is not the only cost to consider - I'm not made of money, harddrives, bandwidth or time. I need to use all of those things wisely.
On the other hand, these bands also sell professionally mastered recordings of every concert on their websites for $10 - $15 a show. Well that amount is not cost prohibitive, but it is discretionary spending. As a result I've only purchased two shows this way. Bottom line is: cost is only an issue in the absence of value and I would consume a lot more if there was something in between free and ridiculous. |

That's not what I wrote BTW. |
|
1 edit | It is a good argument. You believe that offering an easy way to download music legally helps piracy. |

openbox9 join:2004-01-26 Alexandria, VA kudos:2 | I was referring to your ad hominem argument. Perhaps I should have written argument tactic. I still don't believe that "$5 albums" will dent copyright infringement in a significant manner so long as unauthorized free options exist. |

Re: Cheap? Considering that neither of those things will ever happen, it's impossible to prove your hypothesis. |

 | reply to fAcEtIOUs Neither is a colluded price acceptable. I feel there has to be a, open attempt at balancing the price until the optimum price is reached. |
