1) That's primarily the manufacturer's faults, but you do have a bit of a point.
2) If you're jumping fresh from 98/XP to 7, then yeah it will be painful for a while. I've been forced to work on Vista machines so often it wasn't an issue for me.
3) I disagree completely with this one. The rant should be living in a world where you need a UAC to protect against humanity's wicked ways.
4) If you go through the program menus, yes it can be a nuisance. However, the search box, which also functions as the run prompt, will get you pretty much anything you need. For example, typing dev will give you a listing of relative items, like the Device Manager MMC.
5) I can't speak for that one, I have no experience with it.
6) My boot times certainly dropped by 20 seconds or more moving to Windows 7. I've heard almost everyone saying how boot times have improved for them. I'm Surprised to hear you're having such a delay.
7) What kind of games? I haven't tried any old old games, but I will be having a go at good old Starcraft sometime soon. I mainly play Forged Alliance, Battlefield, Sims 3, Final Fantasy XI, Soldiers Of Fortune, Tomb Raider series & UT series.
8) Haven't tried that yet.
9) This was obviously a typo.
10) Really? I haven't had problems with drive space in Win7. I CCleaner the Heck out of it though.
11) This is debatable, but I agree for the most part. Better to say "Vista done right".
12) Freezes? crash diagnostic or just plain screen halt?
13) No problems whatsoever there. My Firefox is love love loving Win7, speedy browsing, no lag unless I leave Firefox open for days (consuming upwards of 300-500+ MB RAM), and that's my own fault.

My main personal gripe is this Rosewill RC-216 eSATA PCI-X card that is performing horrendously under Win7 64 (constant disk permission errors). See #1

I'm going to summarize this.... You never used Vista before, and you never got used to Vista.... Enough said. Win 7 is Vista SP2 with some major modifications. There were major changes in Vista compared to XP also, so you're just compounding your problem into Win 7 instead of what is really happening. You're a few years behind buddy.

It also sounds like you have an older system due to lack of support, which might be leading to most of your problems.

Also if you're running 64-bit you will find many more things are incompatible, like older 16-bit programs, and many programs are just not being written for 64-bit due to the majority still run 32-bit windows. 64-bit is the future, but since the majority of supported windows operating systems are 32-bit, it will be the main support.

If our install freezes every 7 hours - you have a install issue. Run my worklaptop 24x7 - no freezes at all. I have not found booting to be any longer than my home XP Pro install.

Win 7 also deals with second monitors and projectors REALLY well.

I do agree with 2 and 4...

Been running 7 on 2 computers since the first beta was released.

I have experienced exactly 0% of your problems.

Also, the interface is way better than XP's. XP doesn't have a super convenient and super fast search capability in every part of the OS. That alone puts it light years ahead of XP as far as ease of use is concerned.

I only have 1 issue, Most programs with the UAC icon take 10+ seconds to open, They eventually open but its pretty annoying...Programs that don't have this open immediately

Other then that it has been fine

1. Nope none so far
2. so it's different no biggie
3. not really noticed anymore compared to Vista.
4. Not really I think this relates back to #1 on your list.
5. Don't use 7-zip so I have no clue.
6. When I was running HDD it booted just fine for me. Now have SSD so it really doesn't matter.
7. I haven't seen too many people complain about games. Anything that played on Vista will play on Win 7
8. Really?? You serious??
9. OK
10. 16GB for Ultimate x64 on my system not too bad.
11. Night and Day in my book.
12. None related to Win 7 only ones I had have been BIOS revisions from Intel that was bad. Had to roll back one version.
13. That would be your internet connection not Win 7.

Been using Win 7 x64 since beta 2 and have had exactly 0 problems with it. Maybe it's your system that sucks?

My experience will pretty much echo Winsyrstrife

1) None of my computers running Win 7 (3 of them) have any hardware problems. In fact, they all worked right out of the box using Windows supplied drivers.
2) Much nicer than 95/98/XP
3) You can easily disable this through the User Accounts
4) Not any more difficult than previous OS
5) Dunno about that
6) Faster boot than my XP and Vista
7) ALL of my games have worked perfectly so far. This includes old games such as Baldur's Gate I & II, Starcraft, etc.
8) dunno
9) Games run the same or better on Win 7
10) If you mean the OS install itself, it's not that big. I remember people saying crap about XP taking up so much space. When most computers are 500GB + (many are way beyond that now) is a couple GB really a big problem?
11) Much much better than Vista. It's similar but also far better. Compared to my Vista install this is much faster and stable.
12) Ever thought hardware issue? Have yet to have a crash.
13) Browsing is plenty fast, and download speeds are averaging 11.5 Mbps / 1.8 Mbps on a 12/2 plan...so not slow at all. This is on 3 systems.

All of mine run Win 7 64-bit and have had no problems...Games, drivers, programs are all just dandy .

1. Define "popular" I've purchased several new stuff (printers, scanners, mp3 player, joysticks, etc. Not one single problem.
2. The desktop layout is almost the same... just a few changes here and there like the task bar which is plain awesome. You can disable some of the options you know.
3. Turned off UAC, really not needed for me. You know you can just turn that off right? Right?
4. lol...
5. What do you mean? Haven't had an error with windows' archive tool, 7-Zip or Winrar at all
6. It is slower than it was with Windows XP SP3 for me but 10 extra seconds for 40 second boot is not going to kill me.
7. Seriously? LOL! My FPS have actually improved on recent games that I had a chance to install on XP. Steam survey even shows a huge adoption rate of W7. Guess 1+ million gamers are wrong.
8. seriously?
9. See #7. No problems whatsoever.
10. Hard drives are cheap. 8-10gb isn't going to kill you. Even people with Netbooks aren't complaining.
11. -
12-13 Computer specs? Seriously, you could be using really old hardware that really isn't up to par or you have other underlying problems.

Half of the systems at my univesity have upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise. Dozens of different computer configurations (hundreds of computers) and not one single issue.

Seriously though, post your computer specs. You're running hardware such as a 7300GT for example looking at your other thread.

Im a big Mac guy but have been using Win7 since the summer time and found the 100% opposite you have, it makes all other windows look like pure ass. I find it more simple and much better to use than XP. The boot time is half that of Vista, i dont know what took MS so long to get it right.

What are you running Win7 on? Seems like a hardware issue.

perhaps I havent beat up on it enough, but I haven't had a problem with windows 7 at all. boot time is the quickest i've seen for any M$ OS. with a new OS you will have driver support issues in the beginning, and that's not necessarily the fault of the OS.

um no.

every time i turn off my three monitors and then turn them back on (one being a TV) my open windows are moved to the second display instead of staying where they were open on the primary one.

as far as resolution and scaling it does handle it well though.

Not so sure a search feature in every part of windows is terribly helpful, I found the Windows Vista/7 help & troubleshooters no more effective than the ones on 95/98/me/xp/nt/2000

The box says Support for Vista and windows 7 right on the outside, the motherboard isn't even a year old yet, only about 9 months old.

Generally as time goes on it would seem that you should fix what is broken and leave the perfectly functioning stuff the way it is, perhaps with the option to use the new themes or gfx effects. This did not require a complete redux of the OS which was of course forced on the consumer because they are big and you are small.

Additionally as time moves forward you either get poorer or richer, it's not really all that fun to stay in the middle. Through bad economy and medical issues I was shunted towards the broke side like many others, this essentially dictates what I can buy to a certain degree.
