I'm due for a new phone from Verizon soon, and right now I'm looking at the Droid. Had the iPhone come out on Verizon's network a year ago, I would have upgraded to it then.
I know we discussed it before, but hold off. I'm on my 4th in 3 months and I'm about to call in again today and swap it for what will be my 5th. My opinion (based on personal experience) is that the Motorola is not doing proper QA on these things, as each one has a slightly different problem.

If the 5th has issues, I'm going to run it up the flagpole and request they give me a Blackberry.
Strange... I have had my doid since the launch and it has been flawless.. What issues are you having??

Hooo boy, without derailing the thread, here is a list:

Phone 1:
- Multiple core OS crashes rendering the phone useless

Phone 2:
- Worked great, but screen had physical "depression" that ran the length of the screen. Eventually screen stopped responding.

Phone 3:
- Out of the box, phone hard locked during initial setup. If phone didn't lock after pulling the battery, would vibrate in 1/2 second intervals until battery was pulled.

Phone 4:
- Core OS crashed (com.android.phone for example), rendering the phone useless. Also has weird "sandpaper" feel to the screen and has major trouble registering long swipes, making things like unlocking the phone a 3 or 4 attempt process.

Maybe you should swap it out with a blackberry now. That's a lot of issues.

Bought my Droid on launch day, haven't had a single issue aside from the occasional app that doesn't work right and the early camera autofocus bug that's since been patched.

Well, that and the time that I thought it died- even after plugging it in, it wouldn't turn on. Turned out the battery was just very, very dead.

I tried going down that path with Verizon a few hours ago but I'm past the 30-day window, so they refused to swap it for a 9630 even though it's only half the price. They'd happily swap it for an Eris, (which ironically enough is the same price as the 9630), but I detest virtual keyboards.

I'll add another problem to the list, my phone decided to "un"-activate itself an hour ago. I'm waiting on a call and when I woke my phone up to see if I missed it, it was sitting at the initial screen that asks you to activate it.

I think I need to change careers, as my luck with technology lately has been comical.

Me too... I got mine on launch day and I've not had a single unresolved issue (auto focus, not all apps work equally well on all Android phones, this was prevalent in the beginning but very few apps ignore the capabilities of the Droid series)

I got mine from a legit VZW retail location. Wonder if that plays in at all to those with recurring defective phones... bad batch? Haven't found a reason I wouldn't recommend this for anyone looking for a majorly capable smartphone.

Just wait for the nexus One to hit Verizon in a short time frame, it's a better phone than the Droid aka Milestone anyways.
