Re: Eastlink sucks, and lies acrufox: From what I gather, this matter hasn't gone beyond frontline tech support. Next time you call, get a single point of contact: either a tier 2 or a manager. Someone needs to take ownership of the problem.
HaloGod: Regarding dedicated networks, neither Aliant nor EastLink provide dedicated Internet bandwidth. DSL gives you a dedicated connection to a DSLAM, after which the service is oversubscribed. That's not a bad thing, mind you. Dedicated services would be too expensive for the vast majority of residential customers, and totally unnecessary.
LanaD: Ping tests to anywhere really aren't the best idea, since a random destination address might exhibit packet loss for any number of reasons, including off-network problems.
If you're troubleshooting, connect a PC directly to the modem and ping your default gateway. That will at least isolate any problems to a relatively easy-to-test network segment (the PC, the patch cable to the modem, the modem, internal wiring, the cable network and the CMTS). |
