Repeat after me: CDMA is dead

In the USA, everyone except sprint is going LTE.

CDMA is a dead end, no 4G evolution for it. In Canada, CDMA carriers (Bell and Telus) have already covertned to GSM/HSPA because they know that CDMA had become a liabilitty since they can no longer get the trendy phones for CDMA.

CDMA market is very small on a worldwide basis. And it is a short term market since CDMA carriers are in the process of migrating from this dead-end platform.

Also remember that Qualcomm (owner of CDMA) has sued loyal manufacturers and there is very little interest from manufacturers to deal with Qualcomm.

Yeah, RIM and Palm are happy that all the others have abandonned CDMA, but they too will soon stop producing new models for CDMA as soon as Verizon lights up LTE.

An LTE version would support HSPA and possibly EDGE as backup. Having CDMA as backup would require paying the royalties to Qualcomm and being open for lawsuits from Qualcomm.

I would not be surprised if Verizon will have HSPA support when it light up LTE. This would finally make it compatible with its part owner, Vodaphone.

4g and 3g don't just EVOLVE, they are separate technologies. ATT and Verizon are both on board for LTE (Long Term Evolution) systems for 4g. It doesn't really matter if they have GSM or CDMA for their current tnetwork.
