Re: [ps3] Hacker claims to jailbreak the PS3 As I understood the article, it reopens the possibility of using Linux even on the PS3 slim. This news has been out for a while? I never heard of a jailbroke ps3, here's another news outlet's excerpt (all dated last month):
Hotz wrote on his blog, I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. Ive also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip. He also commented, 3 years, 2 months, 11 days
thats a pretty secure system. | | ThinkdiffPremium,MVM join:2001-08-07 Bronx, NY kudos:4 | AFAIK, there's nothing here that would allow you to run Linux on a Slim. It's not that kind of hack. This is the kind of hack that might or might not lead to other hacks. It could be a complete dead end, who knows. The only thing it gets you is full access to memory in Linux on a fat PS3. It's up to other hackers to dumb that memory and look for other exploits.
And FWIW, this happened about 2-3 weeks ago. Not too long ago. -- University of Southern California - Class of 2010. Fight On! | |
