2010 Modem Poll

Per request, it's time to choose what modem you currently lease or own.

This Poll is intended to give members information about what modems Comcast customers are using.
It's not intended to debate which is best.

SB 5101 here. Once they get DOCSIS 3.0 here in Mendocino County (sometime this year is all they tell us) I will probably upgrade to a 6120.

I guess Motorola didnt win in cellphone design, but at least on something about the modem.

I currently own a 5100, but I think that will change to either a SB6180 or DPC3010 as soon as I can find them for sale/for sale at a decent price.

Why isn't the Cisco DPC 3000 included in the list and not listed as "other" that is the D3 modem that I currently have from comcast.

Cisco owns Scientific Atlanta.

The modem you are inquiring about is: Scientific-Atlanta DPC3000

Re: 2010 Modem Poll

I've been using the same Moto SB5100 since 2001 without an issue - it's the only modem I've had since switching to Comcast.

Still using my sb5100 (works great for 12/2) and leaning towards a new moto (model depends on whats available then) when the time comes.
Hard to beat the reliablity, durability, or price (free after rebate!) even if it doesn't offer all the bells and whistles of some other models

If it is not too much to ask... I would like to know where people have gotten their DOCSIS 3 modems. I have found a lot of places that are selling the 6120, but I am curious about the DPC 3000 and the Ubee. (Not sure of modem number)

Additionally, if anyone is using this thread as a guideline to research/purchase a modem, please consider getting a DOCSIS 3 modem over a DOCSIS 2 modem. If you can spare the extra money I think that you will be happier overall. This is especially true if more people in your area subscribe to HSI, or subscribe to faster tiers. Since the DOCSIS 3 modems can channel bond your connection is likely to have more bandwidth available. If someone is hogging a certain channel on a DOCSIS 2 modem, you still have 2-3 other channels to pull bandwidth from.

No matter how much I typed the above post it always seemed to sound stupid and useless... Sorry to anyone who read it and felt that their time was wasted.

Edit: I give up.

I wanted to address a question I had via IM: I was asked why this Poll isn't multiple choice for people who use one modem for CDV and another for HSI. I was originally going to make it multiple choice, but knowing pranksters, anyone could choose every modem and ruin the results.

why not put in a 2nd poll that asks whether or not you use a separate modem, but doesnt ask which kind?
(or you could put this on survery gizmo or something)

Anyone can do a Poll for additional questions. This Poll will address what modem customers are using for HSI.

Motorola SB5100 6 years running now. One of the best internet modems I've ever used and only modem I've used for HSI thus far.

When D3 gets here, I'll probably get a SB6120 or 6180. Maybe I'll end up with an ARRIS 702G since I have CDV too.

Interesting poll, Johkal!

it is so bad no one option can contain the suck that is terayon*

*or maybe comcast westbay has a stock of terayons that are so old they have forever colored my opinion of them..... but they suck something fierce.

on a un-related note i wonder what the numbers of modems that comcast has in actual service, i know from my installs that any d3 modem makes up far less than 10% of the installs, with the thompson and sa models being the most common

I have a 6120 now, but would still be using my 5120 if the latest firmware didn't f-up the modem by causing reboots during uploads.

I'm still using the SB5100 I purchased about 6 years ago. Nearly every time I've had a service issue Comcast has badgered me to lease one of their modems but I have refused. Nearly every time they will claim that the problem is my modem but it is clearly not because it still works great. They've even tried to claim it was their property a couple of times and I've had to take the receipt of purchase to them on multiple occasions.

Now using it on the 12/2 service.
