| I don't play anymore. Played for about a year, and yes the learning curve is steep. Look for some reviews on the product before you buy. I had fun while I played, but in the end, I just got bored with it.

It's a fun game, in my opinion. It does have a steep learning curve, and losing a ship that might well have taken months of saving isk to buy can suck but the game draws me back everytime. |

2 edits | reply to dogg_man_the Been playing since November 2005, so a bit over 4 years, though I took a few breaks of 2-3 months...
I wrote a guide on mining which made me famous, then 1.5 year ago I founded my own corp and alliance. Our alliance was recently kicked out of Geminate after the Northern Coalition, a major team-up of the biggest and most powerful alliances up North (from Vale of the Silent all the way to Cloud Rings, Venal excluded), which we are a member of, was forced to fight on two fronts (Pure Blind against Triumvirate mkIII, Ev0ke and their pets, and Geminate, against Atlas, Solar, XXXXXLeGionxXxXx, all of the fucking russian block and all their pets. The war lasted two months and since Dominion, the latest expansion, the game is utterly fucked in fleet battles. Local chat would spike well above 1000 people and while it was lag free before, it turned into a mess... nodes would crash, grid wouldn't load... basically the game mechanics forced fleet battles of several hundred people, but the server no longer supports it...
Here is an influence map of the entire EVE-verse updated once a day to reflect sovereignty holders. »dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veri···ence.png
DOTLAN.Eve statistics, top alliances according to systems held, outposts, or membership count. Site is a bit bugged at the moment but you'll get the idea. »evemaps.dotlan.net/alliance/
My alliance (of which I am the co founder and no longer run full time. I once took a sabbatical off work and university and ended up being too bored and took on this EVE project... running a 0.0 alliance is a full time job). »evemaps.dotlan.net/alliance/Wild···ropriate.
In the end EVE is a very diverse game but it is not for the impatient or the weak. PvP penalty is fierce, the learning curve steep, and the 0.0 life ruthless and sometimes, frustrating... it's a perfect micro simulation of a capitalist world driven by corporatism, where even the economy is 95% player driven...from the building blocks needed to the final products on market. |

*Disclaimer: in truth .4 space is still safer then Camden. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |

| reply to dogg_man_the I was an alliance leader whose alliance held total ownership over 4 regions. Ownership of the valuable moons in 2 low sec regions. Unofficial ownership of 1 npc region. The other npc region we more or less had our pvpers and pets "securing" but it was basically meant to be left as a roamers paradise.
Then I started playing this other mmog called In Real Life. I quit. The other leader of the alliance took full control and then power tripped. The alliance self immolated quickly afterwards.
even more ironically. I in conjunction with a handful of other people are the ones who designed the plan to destroy wildly inappropriate; or at least bust them out of their sov. the plan was to have multiple waves of affiliated but unaffiliated between waves. soon as dominion happened. the 1st wave would jump in there. Wouldnt get far. 2nd wave would come in and spank wi on a 2nd side but not be with the first wave. So when the 1st is weak, wi and 2nd are spanking them. then when our force moves in. everyone is weak except us.
Problem was.. they got bored and all went at once. at the same time i set g carrier 5 training and practically never logged in. add on top of that.. a fair number of totally neutrals also showed up. which could have been easily managed if the plan was followed. On top of that.. our main spy was having too much fun trolling directors being quite offensive and funny. Got himself kicked. We ofcoarse and obviously were successful. Though not for ourselves. I wasnt around at all. The rest of the leadershipbasically left and the whole corp died and alliance died soon after.
Oh well. im not sure when ill get back into the game. really dont think ill ever run anything again. dont have the time. |

| reply to dogg_man_the No matter what was planned, it eventually boils down to number games. Solar Fleet had tried on two occasions to kick us out of Geminate and failed.
The second time around though, when Atlas napped half the east and came with all their pets, we were severely outnumbered. If local ramped up to 1200, 700-800 would easily be the Atlas nap train. The only one available to help was Razor, as every other NC entities were needed in PB to help Mostly Harmless against TRI and their nap train.
Geminate is a terrible region though, so the loss was small. You morons however let BoB/Ken/IT regain control of Querious AND Fountain, and considering even Pandemic Legion had to fold and leave, you guys were major idiots to let that happen.
It won't take long before they come after everyone else, and you'll be sorry for your shortsightedness. I'm sure IT will try to take Tribute Fortress again, but just like the MAX campaign where they got spanked so hard they decided to redeploy down south to deal with Goons (lol), they'll fail again, unless of course, the morons down south like AAA and Atlas nap them for the sake of it. |

BonezXBasement DwellerPremium join:2004-04-13 Canada | goon has been seriously neutered after the whole alliance basically fell apart, so it's basically a smash and grab down there.
and i'm not exactly in a "sov holding" alliance, more of a band of raiders around cloud ring, mostly just picking on big newbie alliances, tough love in 00 sec :P hell we had to TELL them how to warp towards a cyno so we could bait them. |

| reply to TigerLord quote: No matter what was planned, it eventually boils down to number games. Solar Fleet had tried on two occasions to kick us out of Geminate and failed.
sov was very hard to break before dominion. thats why we were successful at it.
quote: The only one available to help was Razor, as every other NC entities were needed in PB to help Mostly Harmless against TRI and their nap train.
you realize Tri is the nc right? It leaked right around when solar fleet lost the avatar in syndicate. We formed a 1200 man capfleet and a couple giant subcap fleets going around. PL and everyone was tired of the russians coming over taking moons that werent even near their space. So we were going to spank them so hard they never come back. They never showed sadly. However in the makings of that when vipershizzle and 2 others were invited to our channel; they discovered who lead the nc. They were fairly surprised who else was involved.
If you think about it though. NC is big, unopposed, and can pretty much squash anything. So who can really come break that up? Only ones who can already have their problems elsewhere. However if it's nice and peaceful; people who have no chance will come have fun. So instead you engineer your enemy to be a fighter who controls where the fighting happens and what happens. Have acceptable losses. Have fun. The unexpected thing is that forces which have the intentions to mess with your space try to team up with your fake enemy. Then when that happens. You pretty much can decide what to do. Let them come in is more or less gunna happen no matter what. So let them be your pet and use them...or let them be fodder.
Anyway, the reason you got no help was because we wanted you destroyed.
quote: Geminate is a terrible region though, so the loss was small.
Guristas + the dominion changes? Great newb training area. We basically werent able to get control of your alliance our agents within your alliance looking to get control of the alliance didnt appear to be getting there. So we took to crush you and in the attack we expected to have the alliance crumble and leave us in control but it didnt; or at least not enough. So you eventually just went completely down. Though you now hold pet status of the equivalent of the council.
quote: You morons however let BoB/Ken/IT regain control of Querious AND Fountain, and considering even Pandemic Legion had to fold and leave, you guys were major idiots to let that happen.
I really havent been around for this. I doubt we expected goons to fold like they did. We did dispatch kia out there originally to assist goons in taking the space. We more or less knew kia wasnt going to survive it.
Im not sure you realize who we(me) are; caod almost certainly doesnt know my characters.
quote: It won't take long before they come after everyone else, and you'll be sorry for your shortsightedness.
well im not in it anymore. IT has been formed with a ton of talent. itll take a ton of effort to control lots monolithically. I dont think they have those intentions.
quote: I'm sure IT will try to take Tribute Fortress again,
lol no. IT holds their space sparsely. the main regions of the nc are fortresses it cant touch. ive been too out of touch to really know wat's up. |
