Well, not only I bought the video card, but in the process of installing it, my motherboard went dead. No my mistake, just old damn computer. So I have a new (used) one. Dell Opti PLex 170L. Here what I have in it:
Win XP Pro SP 3 Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz 2.79GHx, 512 MB of Ram
GeForce 8400 GS 256MB 64-bit GDDR2
M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 Kensington Expert Mouse
Now, in some games, the cursors/pointer, which become nice icon itself starts blinking, shaking, and is barely visible. That happen only when I play full screen. It's just fine on windowed, but way to small to enjoy it.
On one of the games, which is not affected by that problem, I had a choice to change res, so I did to 1280x1024, like my desktop. I doubt that was a culprit. The affected game (amongst just a few with that pointer problem,) "AtlantisSkyPatrol" worked just fine on my 32MB vid card, but I had a 1 GIG RAM memory then, instead of 512MB now. Will buy another stick soon. I must admit that I didn't download new drivers yet to Nvida, have just the one from installation CD/windows.. (have dial-up, must go to library to do so there, faster.)
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Also. you might want to make sure the drivers for the new GPU are the most current one's. Hopefully this helps. -- Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.

The card is probably a pci card? If so the integrated graphics on the 865g might need to be disabled manually in the bios.
If you aren't familiar with how to get into the bios you should see something on your screen when you first boot the machine that tells you what key to press to enter the bios, such as "press such and such to enter setup ". Typically, when you boot an optiplex you would need to press either the delete key or the f2 key to get into the bios. Try delete first. Press it a number of times after you boot the machine, or when you first turn it on, so you are sure the system recognizes the key press at the appropriate time.
I'm not sure the exact wording of the option in your bios but you want to look for something that disables the integrated video and/or something that allows you to set the pci card as the primary video device or primary graphics adapter.
If you are confused by this or have any questions be sure to post back and I'll try to give a more detailed walkthrough for the optiplex.
I should have remembered to address this issue earlier. I'm sorry I didn't. | | carusoPremium join:2003-08-22 California kudos:1 | Thanks, you all, guys,
as my luck still going strong, the powebox I bought for my old computer and didn't work, that how i knew I had a bigger problem, got exchanged for 1 Gig memory. The machine is not starving anymore and I have a 1.5 gig to play marbled with.
Thanks again, Caruso. -- They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin-
