If true, the move would violate guidelines by the Federal Communications Commission that prohibit Internet service providers such as Verizon, AT&T and Comcast from shutting down Web sites for their subscribers. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is crafting controversial regulations that would make those principles stronger and allow the agency to punish companies that dont treat all content equally on the Web.
They had to cave since what they were doing was against FCC rules for blocking websites do to content, which is the first reason Verizon gave. And since they are trying to kill off Net Neutrality laws before they are written the couldn't be seen as being a censor or a bully. -- Patriots always speak of dying for their country never killing for it.
