Eastlink false advertising

Speed Test #86319663 by dslreports.com
Run: 2010-02-09 09:40:59 EST
Download: 6054 (Kbps)
Upload: 944 (Kbps)
In kilobytes per second: 739 down 115.2 up
Tested by server: 31 java
User: 2 @ dslreports.com
User's DNS: eastlink.ca
Compared to the average of 74 tests from eastlink.ca:
* download is 36% worse, upload is 37% worse Above is my latest speedtest at speedtest.eastlink.ca I'm so sick of the BULLSHIT that eastlink tech support keeps feeding me about why I can't get the 15 MEG speed I'm paying for, the talk to me and I assume every one else as if I'm an idiot and when I catch them talking BULLSHIT about why I'm not getting the 15 meg speed I'm supposed to be getting they then blame it on something else, the fact is I don't know anyone in my area with the same connection speed that's actually getting higher that I'm getting as a matter of fact most of people I know are much slower,. I think Eastlink are advertising a service in my area (Shearstown NL) That they just can not provide, I'm sure there must be a law against this, can anyone let me know who regulates this (government agencies, or any other regulatory firm) so I can report this problem to the right authorities, I'm just sick of calling Eastlink and listening to crap and having nothing done about the problem, they won't even send a service tech to my home to test anything so I'm now ready to take the next step and have someone else with more power go after them. THIS IS JUST NOT RIGHT EASTLINK, and as far as I'm concerned this is false advertising and FRAUD

Still no luck with your speed issues Have you considered sending a compliant to the CRTC regarding this issue? Here is the link:

I guess it doesn't hurt, especially since you are not the only one in this situation in your area according to your other posts. I don't think anyone will debate that you deserve what you are paying for when it comes to this service. Good luck.

I get around the same speed as you NL..On a good day I will get the 6054 kbps.I was having issues for weeks with the net suddenly dropping off and they would come and check the lines with the same story everytime.Lines are fine they say,it would work for a few and go again. They kind of got us by the balls around here when it comes to providers. There is only two high speed providers and they are both crooks!!lol....Eastlink was great years back but like most places they give great service when they first offer it and slowly get greedy.
As far as it being as they say "high speed extreme 15" well that's totally non-sence.Myself,several family members and friends have there service and I don't know anyone in our area who actually gets close to the advertised speed. If I had a better provider to go to I would but I'm stuck with what I got here.

Ah the Eastlink rumor mill, the only thing concrete that I've been able to ascertain is that *something* is coming this year. One Eastlink tech also mentioned they would also offer up a maxed out DOCSIS 2 tier in the 40 Megabit range as well.

I can't see 100 Megabit service in this area being even remotely affordable so it will be interesting to see what they offer between 15-100.

Sometimes I wonder what Aliant is planning on doing, I see all these Ariel drops for fiber connections all over the place. About a year or so ago they came up our street in Dartmouth and strung up a new fiber line and shortly after they installed the drops and hooked everything up. I asked the guy working out on the line when they would offer up residential fiber service and he said it would be "years and years". I can't really see them waiting too much longer to offer something up either, just have to wonder what limitations there will be since Bell is involved with Aliant now.

The 100Mbps has been launched in Halifax today.

Rarely does anyone claiming a speed problem look deep enough to determine the root cause of the problem.

Call Eastlink again if you have any problems with the following:

remove router (if applicable)
determine NIC capability
test for packet loss to any site, if you see packet loss, have an EL employee test for packet loss to your modem
check 'flow' (this will make sense to an EL employee)
if no packet loss - startup pc in safe mode
retest the speed.

These steps alone catch about 98% of the speed problems by either resolving the issue or identifying the cause.

$159.99, ouch.

Yeah! The price would only be worth it for people who are concerned about the upload speed. (100 down now gives 5 up, as opposed to 15 down 1 up)

I could see people using multiple devices connecting, voip/ downloads all tv programs/movies / gaming seeing the price as 'not too bad' if they're not putting out money for a phone/cable.
