Fios

FiOS shouldn't be subjected to line sharing. Why should the earthlink's of the world be allowed to sell services on the infrastructure Verizon is spending billions on building?

Copper is a different animal.

Re: Fios

Because "we the people" built the copper and the fios networks through many "incentives" given to Verizon and the others.

I would kind of agree though... we shouldn't require line sharing. We should take the network and make it part of the single nationwide fiber network serving every business and resident of every state to be serviced by anyone that wants to lease those lines to reach any customer anywhere in the country for any service said customer wants to purchase.

Re: Fios

Actually the investors have paid for the FiOS network, and "we the people" have paid the investors.

So again, we paid for the FIOS network regardless.

Re: Fios

As consumers we pay for EVERYTHING, so we should force all businesses to do what makes US happy? hmm.

Buy some stock then you can have a tiny say as to how verizon runs their businesses. k?

Verizon never wouldve built out FiOS if they were forced to share it. You want more competition, build out your own network. And after you do, please come back and tell us how u feel when you are forced to "share" it.

What makes you such a shill for mega business? Verizon has a de facto monopoly on pole attachments! There simply isn't any more space on many of the poles for additional wires.

1. I rephrased your question to say "As consumers we pay for everything, so is it better to have more or fewer choices of where to spend our money?"

There's always a balance to be struck when there are limited resources and profits at stake. Corporations can't vote (at least not yet), so if they get out of hand, regulators get voted in. Failing that, if things get too crazy, courts step in.

2. So in other words, money talks? Is that really what you meant to say?

3. Verizon amassed capital and assets as a regulated monopoly. You have probably seen photos of, or heard stories about the rat's nest of copper wire and poles that took over already congested cities long ago. You might want to look up 'Kingsbury Commitment' and '1956 consent decree' and go from there. Sure, a lot has taken place since the 1983 MFJ but they haven't forgotten the lessons learned over most of the 20th century. And they haven't divested anything between the NIDs and the wire centers, a lot of which originated while they were a monopoly. So they could be seen as having lingering, maybe everlasting, moral responsibilities.

However the only reason they exist is to make money, and they will use every legal means available to keep the money rolling in. Corporations do only what they are legally required to do, unless they think something will increase profits.

I'm not saying they're all evil, but if there are any loopholes, somebody will drive a freight train through them, so the rest must follow to stay competitive. This is why we still have government by the people and for the people. When too many of the people have forgotten that, it will be time for a new constitution.
