| Winter Wonderland It's snowing! Driving may not be great, but it looks good if you don't have to be out on the road.

 Gertie |
Finally my dog, Gertie gets to see more than a dusting. Pict is soon after it started. She's out there now watching it snow.
She comes in every hour covered in snow, and shakes off. Then goes outside a few minutes later. All playful; tries to catch snowballs. As I'm iinside shivering, she's outside laying in the snow as if it was normal.

I did get to watch the slip sliders try to go up the hill on my road and not make it early this AM. Luckily there were no wrecks from it and no-one got stranded as they could turn around to go back the way they came unlike some Years they had to leave them.
Where are the good old days of 4, 5 to 6 days ice/snow storms like the one in '73? That was a monster ice storm. Trees breaking everywhere and taking out the power lines if they were not down already themselves from the weight of the ice. There was 1" to 2" thick build-up in places and with trees bent over straining from the load and giving up there was also a lot of damage. We had 4' and 5' long icicles on the gutters. Our power was out for 7 days, but we had floor gas furnaces that worked without the power thankfully!
A brief history of Atlanta's snow horrors »www.ajc.com/news/a-brief-history···805.html quote: But the worst storm of all, the one that permanently scarred the psyche of Atlanta, had to be the ice storm of 1973.
What began as a cold rain on Jan. 7 turned into an icy mess. That rain froze, draping power lines and pine trees in ice and causing one of the most spectacular light shows in the city's history: Power transformers blew all over town, illuminating the night sky.
For three days, more than 200,000 people were without power, and many were without heat, unable to travel because roads were glazed with black ice.
And the Snow Jam 82
»ourgeorgiahistory.com/year/1982 quote: January 11, 1982 Snow Jam! This large, unpredicted snowfall paralyzed Atlanta and surrounding areas. The storm track took the heaviest amount of snow over Atlanta and hit in the afternoon, stranding thousands of commuters.
And the one in '93.
A brief history of Atlanta's snow horrors »www.ajc.com/news/a-brief-history···805.html quote: Then there was the Blizzard of 93. Forecasters had predicted snow -- but nothing like the foot that fell in metro Atlanta. Winds reached 50 mph, and temperatures dipped into the teens, transforming the city, for a few hours on a Saturday morning, into a postcard from Norway.
A little more detail for those that were not here.

| I was part of all but the first one.
As you noted, most of it has melted and all we have now is slush. Watch for refreezing tonight, though. Also, they say that more winter weather could be coming tomorrow night and Monday morning. --

I have already locked my front hubs and if I need to I can shift into 4WD High or 4WD Low then keep on trucking in my little Samurai. I just filled it up too, lowered the tire pressure by 8 PSI to 24 instead of the normal 32 PSI for a better grip on snow/slush and topped off all the fluids. Even have fresh Kerosene for the portable radiant heater if the power goes off and plenty of food. I'm ready. I need to use some of this stuff that sits year to year, not used at its full potential. That and all the white is beautiful. I have one condition, that everyone stays safe and warm. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

| reply to skj I remember Snow Jam in '93, something like 4-6" of snow. One thing i remember was driving my Mustang down Memorial Hwy. It is real light on the back wheels and difficult. Everyone was in one lane and slipping/sliding all over as snow was packed to ice. I moved out to a different lane with untouched snow and blew by them.
Don't forget the ice storm in '99. I was without power for 4 days, bought a generator. I lost a beautiful double cherry tree. It was warm all month before and the tree was full of pink blooms. A month later the tree recovered and bloomed again only for a second ice storm to finally kill it. -- Scott Henion
