CAPS and port 119 throttling

The caps kick in if you DL+UL more than 50GB in any 15 consecutive days. So don't think you can transfer 60GB in 10 days and then use the connection less for the remainder of the month, you WILL be put on a server which is slower than dialup.

VIF claims it is BELL who does this not them.

Also port 119 (and probably others) are throttled to the point where legitimate nntp (news server) users such as myself can not connect to or post to news servers. Absurd, their throttling is completely overboard. a P2P witch hunt.

Seriously, like I said I never had any problems when I exceed 50gb as I always do every single month for the past 3 years. The softcap is at 100gb per month. Yes it is 50gb for every 15 days, but it is recalculated everyday. You get put on the 2nd server for a day and the system checks again so you might be on the 2nd server for only a day. VIF had never claimed this to be done by Bell. The throttling is done by Bell which is a whole different thing. »wiki.vif.com/dokuwiki/doku.php/en:softcap

And when on the 2nd server, it does not slow down to dialup speed. Line gets drop and it might slow down a bit. But I've never had major issue.

Throttling is done by Bell from roughly 7pm to 2pm and it goes down to around 30kb/s for downloading during that time. It applies to any Bell DSL reseller. Afterwards it is back up to 500kb/s.

I love it when people reply to a comment by assuming you're a complete nOOb with no idea what's going on. Seriously, like I said I've been with them for the past 3 years with roughly 100gb a month. As for that newsgroup thing... I dont' use it so don't care. Seriously u a troll or what?
