I was a member of numerous private sites when I was into BT back in the day.... And I considered it the best protection that was feasible for my usage. It's kind of like a condom... 95-99% effective... What happens when it fails?

I am sure at 800GB/month, they do get noticed and just ignore the letter which could be a reason why the **AA are trying so hard to push for the 3 strikes rule because smuchks are going "a letter HA! I'll just file that in my in box *downloads more movies*".
I still don't understand why people even use bittorrent, sure its easy and fast, but the data isn't encrypted or sent over a common protocol like HTTP. Downloading over HTTP like from rapidshare no one will notice because it just looks like regular HTTP traffic and the **AA can't view who is downloading what files; yet if you want to know who the seeders are its very easy to query the tracker.

As long as nothing bad is happening to THEM they don't care.
I tell EVERYONE I know to not use bittorrent, yet everyone still does. In fact I personally know someone who got a letter from Comcast when he bittorrented a zero day movie. Did it stop him? Not in the slightest. He had a blue face, but his behavior didn't change.
If he gets sued, I'll just laugh at him. | |
