Plus it's so catchy. How many people did you ever hear say, "just altavista it". Yahoo tried with their mass marketing campaign "Yahoooo-oooo" but it didn't quite take (at least with me)...google not only rolls off the keyboard easily but it rolls off the tongue too...

How is it easier to type www.google.com than to type www.av.com? It is sad when people make false assumptions and others repeat them or even weren't around when av.com aka altavista.com was one of the only search engines.
"google" is 300% longer to type than "av".
