Re: MoFi 3G 3500 router and Rogers Rocket Stick

Hi Everyone,

I am planning on installing a ZTE 688 Rogers stick in a MoFI 3600 and putting it at my cottage. The MoFI will be powered all the time and it is my desire that I be able to remotely connect to my network to access my solar inverter (off grid power system) and to access network cameras for monitoring and security. I have a Linux based computer connected (wired) to the 3600. I would use DDNS (DynDNS)

I have never owned a stick and am worried that the connection will not be persistent and once broken I will not be able to connect remotely. I also plan to have the 3600 on a timer so that it only runs from 9 am to 6 pm (to save power).

Q: Anyone have experience with remotely accessing a configuration like this? Will it work if I am away for a week? month?

Q: Upon reboot I guess I would have to hack something together to log me back into the MoFi. Is there a workaround where the password login can be disabled if desired?

Thanks Much!
G

First thing I would suggest is to test the Rocket Stick at your cottage and see if you are able to get the kind of persistent connectivity you desire -- remembering that its a wireless system that prone to some factors that you or rogers have no control over. If after testing this out for at least a week and you are satisfied with the results Acquire the MoFi 3G 3500 router.

Rogers offers a 30 day money back guaranty on the Rocket Stick -- so if the Rocket Stick does not provide the kind of stable connectivity you are expecting you can cancel the contract and get your money refunded within the 30 day period.

Once you connect the Rocket Stick to the MoFi Router the Mofi Router will automatically establish the connection to Rogers -- so you do not need to worry about passwords etc.

Insofar as power and remote control of the power You must have a power source that has some intelligence -- so if you have that solution in place -- the rest is up to your ability to programme the desired outcome.

Assuming that you are happy with the connectivity that the Rocket Stick provides [after testing] and With the proper remote access solution [Rocket Stick + MoFi + Client remote access capability] you should be able to accomplish your desired objective.
