Re: 2010 Anti Virus Poll

I use Norton Internet Security 2010 and am very happy with it. Runs in the background with no slow down on the system.

I still don't use one. For better or worse I focus on execute prevention and restricted privileges instead.

Why does it have to be either-or? Those things are not mutually exclusive. There's nothing about running AV that prevents you from doing all those other things, and good AV's have negligible impact on the system. My preference is to implement computing practices that are appropriate for the risk environment, but to always have an AV as a backstop. The problem is that no single strategy, no single AV product, no single anything is going to provide 100% protection, so the more well-thought-out safety measures you have operating concurrently the better off you are.

I'm using NOD 4.0.474 on my desktop, and Security Essentials on my old desktop and my son's new laptop. So far I really like Security Essential a lot.

But I still love NOD and been using for over 3 years now and started with version 2.7.

Been using Avast forever seems like, recently updated to the newest. Its lean and mean now, still great AV , as always.

About 14 O/S instances spread across 7 physical machines. No AV on the Linux or OS X installs (five). The Windows instances run nothing (five), Norton 2010 (two) MSSE (one) and Symantec Corp 10 (one). Tried a free ISP-supplied version of McAfee for a while on one machine. I haven't hated a piece of software that much since Siebel.

Ooooh it is so NICE to see a fabulous MS product at the TOP of a poll for a change. I loves my MS Essentials - saved me from another drive-by around 4chan territory today.

Thanks for for a great poll

EDIT
Ooops after reading through I must add:
The MSE is only on my Linux Box - don't use ANYTHING on my Win 7 box, because it's not NEARLY as popular as any flovor of linux so hackers don't bother.

Sorry, just wanted to be as annoying as the 2% market share freeTards.

After using NAV for over 13 years I've switched to Avast5.0 and MSE on all my machines.
Norton really turned me off trying to hold my AV protection hostage until I submitted to their renewal demands....

So why isn't this thread a sticky?

Oddly enough I have one laptop with Avast, and one with Microsoft SE. So...yeah this poll doesn't suggest anything new for me. I suppose I'm one of the hive mind now & have nothing more to learn...

At home I have two PCs with Avira AntiVir on them, and a third with Avast on it.

At work, all the company PCs are protected with Trend Micro OfficeScan. I did not count the ones at my workbench in the poll, since they are company property and I did not install Trend Micro on them.

It is so popular there's no risk of it leaving the first page. With all the other polls coming the top of the forum would be distracting but thanks for the thought.
