| I believe the 4-5Mbps throughput with the firewall on is correct. If you turn off the firewall it may get up to 6 Mbps. This is limited by the CPU and memory capacity (handling the NAT connection states) of the router which was fine when the vbr was sold by SMC for DSL and most cable connections.
I bought a new router to replace the vbr in 2004 due to the low throughput as ISP connection speeds increased. The lifetime warranty is for the lifetime of the product and as you may be aware, the product end-of-life for the vbr was years ago. Best bet is to buy a new router that will support the ISP throughput with the firewall on. |
