Re: It's still a mess in San Francisco

Want better coverage in San Francisco? Tell your neighbors to stop suing whenever a company tries to put up a new cell tower. Seriously, the NIMBY crowd is a loud one, and expanded coverage gets tied up with lengthy environmental reviews and lawsuits for years. The culture in San Francisco and New York has allowed this to happen for way too long. Just google for "cell tower lawsuit" if you don't believe me. It's ridiculous.

That may be true, but why not add to existing towers? T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon seem to have no problems covering the area.

Verizon has had a long legacy build out in CA, AFAIK.
T-Mobile has the old PacBell Wireless network (legacy/very well built out)
Sprint has it pretty much the best in urban CA, as they have added CDMA onto iDEN sites (purchase of Nextel)

AT&T (was Cingular) bought AT&T Wireless, which had a weak network, and their expansion came after NIMBYism.
