ShellMMG posted : Heh, I don't have Broadstripe or any other cable/FIOS/DSL company. No access. My parents, who live in town, have Broadstripe. My dad doesn't complain too much, especially when he asks me about my internet bill.

I don't think I'm asking for anything unreasonable; I would just like a good speed (2-3MB down is fine) that works most of the time for around $60 a month with a reasonable cap and NO ridiculous overcharges. $.25 a MB? Gimmie a break!

ShellMMG posted : The town of Grass Lake has cable broadband; it's Broadstripe (formerly known as Millennium Cable?) and Verizon is coming through town. But that's *TOWN.* Rural surrounding areas are screwed.

And, your cable TV company, if you live in town.

ShellMMG posted : I am about to snag VZW by it's virtual earlobe in the next few weeks. I'm not sure if it'll work, but I'm hoping to negotiate some kind of "deal" that will let me continue my true unlimited, Alltel-grandfathered wireless internet account when my contract expires in August.

I know VZW makes a good argument that wireless broadband isn't the best for home users but for many subscribers, it's the ONLY choice. We're a family of four with two teens, one in college and the other in HS taking an online course. My husband is a college adjunct professor who uses eLearning on a regular basis. Satellite is NOT broadband (been there, done that, latency murders real-time apps, etc.). Sprint and AT&T don't bother with my area and aren't interested in money from here.

I'd rather give VZW my $60 a month and keep what I have. I don't need uber-fast download speeds and am happy with what we're pulling down, but that 5G cap (with their outrageous overcharges) are a deal-breaker. Period.

LTE? I would *love* to have access. I'd be happy to work with VZW to market it to my neighbors, spread the word, etc., because most in our area automatically assume broadband isn't available at all.

So...is VZW still interested in my little corner of the market? I hope so.
