Speed package is 20mb/3mb with powerboost. It is cable internet. Running Tomato 1.25 ND by Victek. Here is my network.
2 desktops (wired) laptop (wireless) Xbox 360 (wired) Nintendo Wii (wireless) Directv (wired) for on demand shows/movies
1 desktop is currently not connected. I cannot use QoS due to powerboost messing with actual speeds. Since they vary now. Is the limit reached with this router or getting close to it?
Is an article from Small Net Builder where they compare a stock Linksys router using the stock firmware to one using DD-WRT and or Tomato. In some ways the 3rd party firmware out performs the Linksys and in other ways it does not.
reply to KoRnGtL15 I'm running a similar WRT54G-TM with DD-WRT in a small office environment with ~25 work stations and some remote users connected via VPN (of which the router also servers as the VPN end-point) on Verizon's 25/25Mbps line and the router has been great. The router also serves as both a non-virtual and virtual access point (for public and private wireless access).
reply to KoRnGtL15 I have a wrt54GL with DD-WRT here's a speed test with the firewall active and the cpu overclocked to 250, which is safe on the unit without additional cooling. I have 30/5 service.
reply to KoRnGtL15 Thanks for the reply's. We just got upgraded to 25mb/3mb service which also includes powerboost. I also had to pick up a new docsis 3.0 modem for that speed tier. They launched docsis 3.0 in our area. Since the modem was a little pricey. I was hoping I would not have to upgrade the router.
reply to KoRnGtL15 i can get 40mbps(peak powerboost data rate ) with dd-wrt pre-sp2 build 13064 -- said by LazMan living is the leading cause of death.
